rIhis invention relates to improvements in the building art and particularly to walls of that type set forth and to be erected in accordance with the general plans set forthrin the ivalrowski Patent No. 1,579,377. According to the teachings of said patent the wall is made up of supporting studs and then lathing v strips are laid proiniscuously across the face of the studs and fastened to the studs and to each other` in whatever position they may chance to be laid relative to the studs. lathing strips are then plastered over or oth'- erwise treated as may be Ydesired to finish the wall.

The fastening element is preferably positioned by means of the following operation:
Itis first placed within the co-acting jaws of the ypinching tool 9, which 'may be of any 'desired type. rEhe tool carrying the fastening element is then projected throughthe slot 3. The distance between the prong 5 and the end of the detent 7 is sufficiently wide to alloW the same to straddle the stud l, as clearly shown in F ig. 2. When the fastening element has been positioned so that the at surface 4 isagainst the face of the lath the tool 9 is operated `to pinch the prongs 5 and6 y towards each other. This causes the beveled surface 8 of the detent 7 to ride the'beveled surface 1b of the leg la and brings the prong 5 into direct frictional contact with the flat side of the stud l. surfaces 8 and 1b have a Wedging effect to draw the flat plate 4 into close frictional engagement with the front face of the lath and to force same into tight contactagainst the stud, and the engagement of the ydetent 7 with the leg of the stud and of the prong 5 against the flat of the stud holds the fastening element securely in position, as Will be apparent.
rEhus the lath may be fastenedV at a plurality of the points along the stud and the free meeting ends of the lath off the stud are fastened to each other and to the edges of the adjacent laths by the clips l0 in the manner andform shown. in the patent mentioned in the preamble to this specification.
It Will be apparent vfrom this descrigtionV that by means of our improved method and instrumentalities plaster board'lath may be quickly mounted against the metal stud'and there securely fastened at a number of points in a most admirable Way and With a minimum expense of time) labor and material7 all of which is quite essential to en efficient and economical erection of Walls of this type in class A buildings.
Having thus described our invention What We claim as new and useful and desirejto se-y cure by Letters Patent is:
A fastening element for use in securing plaster lath to a channel stud the inner face of the leg of which is beveled, comprising a body and projecting prongs, one prong having a detent at one end thereof, the inner surface of the detent being beveled and the distance from the body to the beveled surface being less than the combined Width of the lath and'stud leg which are to be joined together, the two prongs lying normally in the same plane and the detent prong being bent in that plane out of its stud engaging position.
