This invention relates to broom holders and lhas as its general object'toprovide a device which may-be suspended or hung'upon a wall or other support and with which the handle oV a broom or the like-'may beconveniently and quickly 'engaged and automatically f "grasped so as. to'befsupportedin suspended Another'object ofthe invention is toprovide a deviceionthel purposestated" which maybemadeffrom,sheet metal blanks at an exceptionally -lowcostfand which will be so simple in its construction jas to adapt it to be manufactured at little expense, the invention contemplating in this'V connection, a hinge connection between the fixed and the movable gripping member of the device Vwhich will consist ofa sheet metal blank properly formed, and which blank will, be anchored withoutthe employment of screws.

This inventiony also consists in certain other correspondingparts throughout'the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of theY broom holding device embodying the invention, a broom being shown suspended therefrom.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view illustrating the parts in position to clamp a broom handle.

12 and 13, and in this manner the member 9 is hingedly connected with the member 1, it being observed by reference to Figures 1 and `3 of the drawings that the pintle lugs 12 are held in the fold between the` portions 1 and 5 of the first described blank by reason ofthe engagement of the pintle pin therethrough and through the pintle lug 13. It will be observedzby'reference to the several figures of the drawing that the V-shaped recess is located above the forward portion of the opening 7, and it willbe understood from the foregoing and by reference to the drawinfr g, and particularly Figures 2 and 3, that lwhen the broom handle isV slid upwardly through the opening 7, it will ride not only against the sharpened edge or beveled wall of the opening 7, but also against theside walls of the recess 10 ,in the member 9, and therefore the member9 will be swung upwardly to assume substantially` the position' shown in Figures 2 and 8 of the drawing and, when the broom handle is released, the walls of the recess 10 will engage the rear side of the broom vhandle at spaced points, and as .Y
