Description

G. w. CABLE BOAT ATTACHMENT Feb. 3, 1931.
Filed June 25, 1930,
Gw/ye W fizz/a Patented Feb. 3, 1931 GEORGE tVINTI-IROIP CABLE,
OF DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA BOAT ATTACHMENT Application filed June 23,
The object of this, my present invention, is the provision of a prow for fiat bottom boats whose sides are rounded to the bow thereof, of a construction which will reatly facilitate the speed of the boat as the same cuts or parts the water to direct the same against the sides and not under the bottom of the boat, and further wherein the prow adds weight to the bow of the boat, and likewise It serves as a ballast, the bow being hollow and afiords a tank for gasoline or water, and further wherein the application of the prow to the boat greatly strengthens the boat.
* To the attainment of the foregoing the in- 35 vention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bow portion of a fiat bottom boat equipped with the improvement.
Figure 2 is a front view thereof. Figure 3 is a bottom plan View thereof. Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view approximately on the line 55 of Figure 3.
A flat bottom boat that has sides rounded to its forward or how end is indicated by the numeral 1. its the description progresses it will be noted that with my improvement this type of boats may be more easily con structed than is ordinary for the reason that the improvement holds the rounded or curved sides at the bow of the boat in proper relation to each other.
The bottom of the boat, at the bow end thereof, is arranged at the usual inclination, as indicated by the numeral 2 of the drawings. My improvement is designed to be attached to the sides, front and bottom of the prow or forward end of the boat. The improvement is preferably constructed of metal but is hollow and water tight. The improvement includes an inclined or angle top 3 to as underlie the floor portion 2 of the boat at the bow thereof. The sides a of the improvement have their upper edges flanged, as at 5, and are riveted or otherwise secured to the sides and front of the boat by removable means 6. The sides 4 from their flanged portions 5 are 1930. Serial No. 463,238.
concaved inwardly toward the pointed center or bottom 7 of the prow. The point or front of the prow is indicated by the numeral 8 and the bottom of the prow at the rear thereof is formed with a flanged extension 9 that is secured by spaced removable means 10 to the flat bottom of the boat 1.
Obviously there may be an opening b tween the inclined bottom or floor 2 and the hollow prow which is normally closed by a plug as disclosed by dotted lines and inclicated by the numeral 11 in Figure 5 of the drawings. The prow properly balances the bow end of the boat and as the same has its sides rounded inwardly or cencaved, its front and its bottom knife-shaped or pointed and also its sides gradually increasing in width from the pointed end 8 to the rear thereof, causes the boat, when propelled to rapidly separate or cut through the water so that a flat bottom boat provided with the improvemen can be propelled in as easy a manner as a boat provided with a round bottom.
It is to be understood that other methods of fastening the prow to the boat may be employed. For instance, the prow may have its upper edges flanged outwardly and directly secured to the bow of the boat or the said flanges may be covered by a plate through which the securing means pass.
t is thought the foregoing description when read in connection with the accompanying drawings will fully and clearly set forth the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof to those skilled in the art to which such invention relates so that further description will not be required.
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A removable prow for the bottom at the bow of a fiat bottom boat, comprising a hollow member corresponding in shape to the sides of the bow portion of the boat and having its sides rounded or concaved inwardly from its upper edge to the lower center thereof.
2. A removable prow for the bottom at the how of a flat bottom boat, comprising a hollow member corresponding in shape to the sides of the bow portion of the boat and having its sides rounded or concaved inwardly from its upper edge to the lower center thereof and said prow having side flanges and a rear bottom flange through which the removable securing means pass for fastening the same to the sides and to the bottom of the boat.
3. A removable prow for the bottom at the bow of a flat bottom boat, comprising a hollow member corresponding in shape to the sides of the bow portion of the boat and ha.V- ing its sides rounded or concaved inwardly from its upper edge to the lower center thereof and said prow having side flanges and a rear bottom flange through which the removable securing means pass for fastening the same to the sides and to the bottom of the boat and a normally plugged opening between the forward and inclined bottom of the boat and the top of the hollow prow.
4. A prow for fiat bottom boats comprising a hollow member having an inclined top and its sides rounded from its rear to its front, andsaid sides being concaved inwardly to the center of the bottom of the prow, the sides and front of the prow having a continuous extension and the bottom of the prow having a fiat extension.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
