ThisV invention relates to a spraying device adapted to be used in connection with a receptacle containing perfume or other liquid,
for disseminating such liquid in the form of a very ine'spray or vapor.
In spra ing devices of this type, air is forced un er pressure through a 4nozzle hav- Ving asmall orifice and carries with it small quantities of the liquid in a nely'divided state. One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an improved arrangement for creating the air pressure, especially an arrangement which is neat, compact and attractive in appearance, and at the same time easy to manipulate. Theinvention also comprises various improvements in the details of construction and in the relative arrangement of the different elements, the advantages of which will be understood from the following description, taken in connection with the .accompanying drawings illustratlng the same.

The invention, in its present embodiment, is shown in connection with a flask 10, made of any suitable material and having an upwardly extending neck 11, the upper end of which is covered by a metallic rim 12. This rim extends into the upper end of the neck 11 and is internally threaded to receive a correspondingly threaded stopper 13 which is provided l with a peripheral shoulder 14 adapted to seat against the upper face of the rim 12.
' The stopper 13 is formed with a central bore in which is secured the upper end of a cylinder 15 which extends downwardly within the neck 11. A plunger 16 is adapted to reciprocate within the cylinder 15. The
upward movement of the plunger 16 is limseat against the upper face of the stopper.
The plunger 16 has a reduced stem portion 19 whic extends upwardly through the collar 15 so thatl its upper end may be engaged to depress the lunger.,k
A piston ead 20, within the cylinder 15, normally engages the lower end of the plunger 16 and carries a cup-shaped valve 21 which fits against the interior surface of the cylinder. The head of the plunger 16 is normally held against the lower edge of the collar 17 by the'piston head 20 which is urged upwardly by a coil spring 22 within the cylinder, the lower end of the spring bein seated against a head 23 which is secure to the lower end of the cylinder.
The outer surface of the stopper 13 is covered by a shell 24.- which is formed with in the stopper. The cavity 26 communicates with the interior of the neck 11 through a duct 2 7. A port 28 is formed inthe side of the cylinder 15 just below lthe cup-shaped valve 21 when the latter is in its uppermost position. An air passageway 29 leads from the lower end of the cylinder through the head 23 and is connected by a tube 30 with anair passageway 31 through the stopper 13. A nipple 32 is secured in the stopper 13 at the mouth of the passageway 31 and is surrounded by a nozzle 33,- also secured in the stopper and .spaced from the nipple 32 to provide a concentric cylindrical space 34 within which the liquid passes through the nozzle under the influence of the air current as'hereinafter explained. The nozzle 33 is provided with a comparatively small orice 35 through which the spray is emitted as air is forced through the nipple 32.
The cylinder head 23 is formed with a downwardly projecting annular flange 36 which is internally threaded to receivev a correspondingly threaded socket 37. A tube 38 is cemented or otherwise secured in the socket 37 and extends downwardly nearly tothe 16 depressed by the pressure of the lagainst the stem 19. As the plun er 16 and the valve 21 move downwardly, t e port 28 is initially cut-olf from the space within the cylinder 15 and below valve 21. rllhe air contained in this space is forced under pressure throughthe passageway 29, tube 30, nipple 32 and the orice 35. This current of air under pressure creates ya partial vacuum in the space 34 surrounding the ni ple 32 and this serves to draw liquid upwardlly through the tubes 38 and 41 and into the space 34 whence it is drawn into the stream of air and discharged therewith through the orifice 35 in the form of a very line spray or vapor.
Although the invention may be used for spraying various preparations, it is primarily designed as a perfumizer. 1t may be made m neat and attractive designs to harmonize with other toilet articles used in the boudoir. By unscrewing the stopper 13, thel spraying device may be removed as a unit from the flask and the latter relilled, or a new liaslc substituted. v
While we have shown and described the detailed construction of the invention in the form which is at present preferred, it is obvious that various modifications may be made therein without any material 'departure from the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What we claim is:
1. In a liquid spraying device, the combination with a stopper, an air chamber depending therefrom, and means for compressing air within said chamber, of a nozzle including inner and outer tubular members each having an individual screw threaded connection with the stopper, said stopper having bores communicating with the respective members of the nozzle, a head for said chamber having an air passageway therethrough leading from the interior of said chamber and directly connected with one of the bores through the stopper, said head having a liquid passageway therethrough leading from outside the chamber and connecting with the other bore through the stopper, and means for supplying liquid to said liquid passageway.
2. In a liquid spraying device, the combination with a stopper, an air chamber depending therefrom, and means for compressing air within said chamber, of a nozzle inmanina cluding inner and outer tubular members each having an individual screw threaded connection withD the stopper, said stopper having bores communicatmg with the respective members of the nozzle, a head for said chamber having an air passageway therethrough leading from the interior of said chamber and a liquid passageway therethrough leading from outside the chamber, a tube constituting a downward extension for said. last mentioned passageway and adapted to have its lower end immersed, and means directly connecting said air passageway and said li uid passageway with the respective bores t rough the stopper.
3. An attachment for a liquid receptacle, comprising a stopper, a cylinder depending from the stopper, a head for the lower end of the cylinder, a reciprocable member within the cylinder adapted to compress air therein upon its downward stroke, a nozzle including inner and outer members each having individual connection with the stopper, said stopper vhaving' bores communicating with the respective members of the nozzle, two tubes alongside said cylinder and connected directly with the respective bores through the stopper, said head having one passageway connecting one of said tubes with the interior of the cylinder and another passageway connected with the other of said tubes and having a downward tubular yeX- tension adapted to be immersed in liquid.
