Thisinvention relates to wagonvloaders l and excavators of the type .characterized by an inclined conveyor adapted to elevate material so that itmay be conveniently loaded intol a wagon or other vehicle. In such machines,

The digging action of the propeller blades 18 may be augmented by the provision of a plurality of digging elements or icks 21 secured to the shaft 14 at opposite sides of the conveyor 6, as described in my prior application Serial No. 352,196, led April '3, 1929, thus rendering the machine particularly adapted for use as an excavator, although it may be satisfactorily'employed, in the absence of such digging elements, for the loading of materials which are more easily acted upon than such materials as may be encountered in excavating operations.
Immediately below and in proximity to the delivery end of the conveyor 6 is arranged an auxiliary conveyor 22 to which the material is delivered from the conveyor 6 and by which. such material may be delivered to a wagon, truck or other vehicle as the machine is crowded into the material to be elevated. This auxiliary conveyor includes a frame 23, within which is supported an endless conveyor belt 24, driven by a suitable power plant, such as an internal combustion engine or electric motor M mounted upon a platform carried by the conveyor frame 23.
In order that the conveyor 22 may be lowered out of the way oi the conveyor 6 when it is desired to move the latter to a substantially horizontal position, the conveyor 22 is mounted upon a vertically adjustable support or supportin frame 28 carried by the main frame 8. This support includes a pair of side frames havin upper and lower side members, 30 and 31, eac carrying a guide roller 32, which rollers operate within vertically disposed channel frame members 33 included in the main frame 8 and serving as guides for the support 28 as it is raised and lowered.
For raising and lowering the support 28, a suitable winch mechanism may be em lo ed, which is herein shown as including a shag 34 journalled to the main frame 8 and carrying a pair of drums 35. To o ne end of the shaft 34 is connected a gear 36 meshing with a smaller gear 37 which is rotatably connected to the frame 8 and is adapted to be driven by a shaft 38 having a square end to which a crank may be applied. The winch mechanism may be locked against krotation by a pawl 39 pivoted to the frame 8 and adapted to engage the gear 37. To the drums 35 are anchored cables 41, which pass over a pair of pulleys 42 and 43 rotatably supported between pairs of pulley plates 44, secured to the upper ends of the frame members 33. From the pulleys 43, the cables 41 pass around pulleys 45 carried by the support 28. From the pulleys 45, the cables 41 extend up over pulleys 47 mounted adjacent the pulleys 43. From the pulleys 47 the cables 41 pass over pulleys 48 mounted adjacent the pulleys 45, and extend upwardly to their 4respective points of' connection with the outer pulley plates 44. From this arrangement of cables and pulleys, it is apparent that when the drums 35 are rotated in one direction, the support 28 and conveyor are lifted and that as these drums are rotated in an opposite direction the support 28 and conve or 22 move downwardly by gravity so that t e conveyor 6 may be lowered to a substantially horizontal position, the support 28l being guided in its vertical movements by the guide rollers 32 operating within the channel frame members 33 of the main frame 8.
Preferably the auxiliary conveyor 22 is pivotally connected to the support 28 so that it may be moved in an arc to facilitate the loading of trucks or other yvehicles under various conditions, and to this end there is provided a rotatable plate 50 suitably mounted upon the support 28 and pivotally connected thereto by a vertical shaft 51 j ournalled in such support. Also, it is desirable that provision be made for varying the inclination of the conveyor 22, and to this end the conveyor is adj ustably connected to the rotatable plate 50 by a pair of hinge plates 52 secured to the sides of the conveyor frame 23 and pivotally connected to the rotatable plate, as shown at 53. Between the frame 23 of the auxiliary conveyor and the lower end of the vertical shaft 51 is disposed a supporting brace or link 54. This brace includes a pair of telescopic sections 55 and 56, the former 'of which is pivoted to the-conveyor frame at 57 and the latter of which is pivoted at 58' to the lower end of the vertical shaft 51. The section 56 is provided with screw threads, as shown at 60, and carries thereon an adjusting nut 61 against which the lower end of the, section 55 abuts. By rotating the nut 61 in one direction, the section 55 is moved upwardly on the section'56 and by rotating this nut in an opposite direction the section 55 is permitted to move downwardly on the section 56 under the weight of the conveyor 22, the nut 61 serving to maintain the conveyor 22 at any desired inclination.
It 'will be understood that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a machine of the character described, a main frame, a vertically'adjustable supporting frame slidably connected to said main frame, material-receiving means mounted upon said supporting frame and adapted to be raised and lowered according to the adj ustment of said supporting frame, and a conveyor pivotally connected tosaid main frame, said conveyor being adjustable independently of said material-receiving means and adapted to deliver material thereto.
2. In a machine of the character described, a main frame, a vertically adjustable supporting frame slidably connected to said main frame, material-receiving means mounted' upon said supporting frame and adapted to be raised and lowered according to the ady justment of said supporting frame, and a conveyor pivotally connected to said main frame, said conveyor bein adjustable independently of said materia -receiving means and adapted to deliver material thereto, and means for raising and lowering said materialreceiving means with respect to and independently of the delivery end of said conveyor.
3. In a machine of the character described, a main frame, a vertically ad'ustable supporting frame slidably connecte to said main frame, material-receiving means mounted upon said supporting frame and adapted to be raised and lowered according to the adjustment of said supporting frame, and a conveyor pivotall connected to said main frame, said conveyor being adjustable independently of said material-receivlng means and adapted to deliver material thereto, and a winch mechanism cooperating with said supporting frame and said material-receiving means for raised and lowered according to the adjustment of said supporting frame, and a main conveyor ivotally connected to said main frame, sai main conveyor being adjustable independently of said auxiliary conveyor and adapted to deliver material thereto.
5. In a machine of thevcharacter described, a main frame, a vertically ad'ustable suporting frame slidably connecte to said main rame, an auxiliary conveyor pivoted to said supporting frame for lateral adjustment and adated to be raised and lowered according to t e adjustment o said supporting frame,
and a main conveyor pivotally connected toy said main frame, said main conveyor being adjustable independentlyof said auxiliary conveyor and adapted to deliver material thereto.
6. In a machine of the character described,
a main frame, a vertically adjustable supporting frame slidably connected to said main frame, an auxiliary conveyor pivoted to said supporting-frame for lateral adjustment and ada ted to be raised and lowered according to t e adjustment of said supporting frame, and a main conveyor pivotally connected to said main frame, said main conveyor being adjustable independently of said auxiliary conveyor and adapted to deliver material thereto, and means for raisin and lowering said supporting frame and sai auxiliary conveyor with respect to and independentiy of the delivery end of said main conveyor.
7. 9. In a machine of the character described,
a main frame, a vertically adjustable supporting frame connected to said main frame, an auxiliary conveyor pivoted to said supporting frame for both lateral and vertical movements with respect to said supporting frame and adapted to be raised and lowered bodily according to the adjustment of said supporting frame, means for adjustably supporting the delivery end of said auxiliary conveyor in various positions, a main conveyor pivotally connected to said main frame, said `main conveyor being adjustable independently of said auxiliary conveyor and adapted to deliver material thereto, and means for raising and lowering said supporting frame and auxiliary conveyor with respect to and independently of thedelivery end of said main conveyor.
