The rockers 4,8 are provided with trunnions downwardly the rockers are turned on their trunnions so as to raise the valve 45 to open it.
TWhen water is admitted by either or both taps or valves it passes into the upper end of the pivot tube 1 but the upper part of this tube 1 is divided by a partition 11 from the lower portion so that the upper portion of the pivot sleeve forms a water admission chamber 12.
The partition by lwhich this chamber is formed also includes an inner tube 13 having its lower end connected to the partition 11, the inner tube 13 extending to the top of the casting 15.
This casting 15 is provided with an opening at the top and the opening has a cap 5 which may be provided with a depending sleeve 16 engaging in or around the top ot the partition tube 13.
The lower bearing 4 for the pivot tube 1 may also take the form ot a casting'having an attachment portion 30 whereby it may be fastened to the bracket 43 and it may also include a stufing box 17 in order to make a liquid tight connection with the-lower part of c the tube 1, it being understood that the pivot tube turns when the basin is moved; the two bearings, of course, remaining` stationary.
The lower part of the lower bearing 4 is formed as a water discharging outlet 23 and may be screwedso that a waste pipe or a siphonic trap may be secured thereto and above this discharge portion the lower bearing may be formed as a valve seat 18.
The valve working on this seat may consist of a sliding tube 19 arranged centrally through the pivot tube 1 and sliding axially therein, this tube 19 being provided with a collar or shoulder 20 near its lower end under which is a rubber or other washer 21 adapted to enga geV the valve seat 18 and form a closure.
The tube 19 beneathv the rubber or other washer is provided with a number of holes 22 so that when the tube is raised the water can pass through these holes and into the water outlet 23.
The tube 19 extends up through the pivot tube 1 and at a suitable position approximately on a level with the upper part of the basin 25 further holes 26 are provided therein so that an automatic overflow escape is thus provided.
At its upper end the tube 19 is provided with a plug 27 having a stem 24 to which a pin 28 is attached, this pin passing through a bearing in the cap 5 and being provided with a knob 29 so that it can be lifted when it is desired to discharge the water.
It required, the cap 5 may be provided with an internal shoulder 55 and vertical guide 56 while the pin 28 is provided with a radial projection 57 which is adapted to ride up the guide 56 and to engage the shoulder 55 when the knob 29 is given a part turn. This provides a means of keeping the water outlet valve open when desired.
Instead of using this arrangement we may provide for the automatic operation of the valve tube 19 when the basin is swung into and out of use and the arrangement may be such that the outlet valve is automatically opened when the basin is swung into its out of use position.
This may be eiiected by providing a lateral projection on the stem 24 or on the pin 28, this projection being engaged by a helical or other suitably shaped cam provided within the tube 13 and aliixed thereto so that it rotates therewith.
'Alternately, the tube 13 may be provided with an inward radial projection engaging a helical or other cam either on the stem 24 or on thepin 28.
VIf this arrangement is provided then the tube 19 will be automatically raised when the basin is swung into its out ot' use position and it will be kept raised until the basin is returned to its in use position.
It this arrangement is used it will not interfere wih the manual operation of the valve tube 19 when the basin is in its in use position.
A spring may be provided acting upon the water outlet tube 19 and normally retaining it in its lower or closed position.
Instead of providing a number of small openings in the lowest part ot the basin as shown and allowing the water to flow freely therethrough into the pivot tube 1, the lowest part Vof the basin may be provided with an outlet fitting ot the well known type including a bush which receives a plug attached to the basin or adjacent to the structure by a chain. It such an arrangement is used then the tube 19 and associated parts may be omitted, and an overflow tube may be provided connecting the upper part of the basin with the tube 1.
The basin 25 may be of any suitable or usual form preferably forming a bowl and this bowl is connected at its upper part with the upper part 12 of the pivot tube 1 the connection being formed by a pipe 31 which forms the water inlet pipe to the basin.
At its lowest part the basin is provided with-a grating 32 beneath which is an outlet fitting 33 which may be provided with a removable plug 34 it desired, this outlet itting being connected by a pipe 35 to the lower part of the pivot tube 1.
The upper part of the basin is preferably provided with an inwardly and downwardly projecting lip 36 so as to prevent the water from splashing or overrunning the edges of the basin and this lip may be extended upwardly and outwardly where it is bent down to form a lip 37 connected to a deep body 38.V

In the arrangement shown in Figures 7, 8, and 9, the outlet valve 21 is automatically opened when the basin is swung into its out of use position and the outlet valve 21 is automatically closed when the basin is swung into the position it is to occupy when used. Further, the arrangement shown in Figures `7, 8, and 9 also permits the outlet valve 21 to be operated by the knob 29 at any time ii desired.

A wash basin comprising a substantially vertical tube, an upper bearing for said tube, a lower bearing for said tube, a basin fixed to and supported by said tube intermediate said upper and lower bearings, said basin being mounted to swing horizontally about the axis of said t-ube, said upper bearing forming a water inlet chamber, said lower bearing having an opening forming an outlet Jfor water, a partition in said tube intermediate said bearings, a valve controlling said water outlet opening, a pipe connecting the upper part of said tube with the upper part of said basin, and a pipe connecting the. lower part of said basin with the lower part of said tube.

A wash basin comprising a substantially vertical tube, an upper bearing for said tube, a lower bearing for said tube, a basin ixed to and supported by said tube intermediate said upper and lower bearings, said basin being mounted to swing horizontally about the axis of said tube, said upper bearing forming a water inlet chamber, said lower bearing having an opening forming an outlet for water, a partition in said tube intermediate said bearings, said partition having a tubular extension, extending through said upper bearing, a valve controlling said water outlet opening, a stein on said valve whereby it may be operated, a projection on said stem, a fixed' sleeve having a slot in which said projection engages so as to prevent said stem from turning while permitting it endwise movement, a bush in the end of said tubular extension, said bush having a cam face for raising and lowering said stem when the basin is turned, said cam face being engaged by the projection on said stem.

A wash basin comprising a substantially vertical tube, an upper bearing for said tube, a lower bearing for said tube, a basin ixed to and supported by said tube intermediate said upper and lower bearings, said basin being mounted to swing horizontally about the axis of said tube, said upper bearing forming a water inlet chamber, said lower bearing having an opening forming an outlet for water, a partition in said tube intermediate said bearings, said partition having a tubular extension, extending through said upper bearing, a valve controlling said water outa
