UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. HAMILTON, OF PLUM HOLLOW, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BEE-FEEDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,765, dated June 13, 1876; application filed May 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W. E. HAMILTON,'of Plum Hollow, in the county of Fremont, and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bee-Feeders; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a bee-feeder, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
A A represent the vertical side bars, B the top bar, and G the bottom bar, of an ordinary comb-frame for bee-hives. In the upper part of this frame is inserted a trough, l), which may be either movable or stationary, and extend either the entire length or only part way of the frame. In the top bar B of the frame is an aperture, a, through which feed-may be introduced into the trough for feeding the bees.
By this simple device the bees may be fed in any kind of weather without disturbance, and it insures immunity from stings in feeding, security from robber bees, and it is durable, and economizes space in the hive.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A trough, D, inserted in the upper portion of an ordinary comb frame, A B O, with an aperture, 0., above the same in the top bar 13 of the frame, as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of April, 1876.
WILLIAM E. HAMILTON. Witnesses:
