in the embodiment;illustrated' in Figs.- 1
to 5-inclusive, there isprovided a,,bottom port-ion A 1' containing the lower .compart- .ment; an ii'ltermediate portion B containing the cover for the lower compartment and the upper compartment, and the cover portion-G. p i I I In Fig. 3, the lower portion A is illustrated as provided with the shoulder portion 1, an annular wall portion 2 to which is secured, a destructible seal 3, and a base portion 4 which is preferably composed of two sheet members 5 and 6, the sheet member 6 having so a circular opening 7 and the sheet member 5 having an opening 8 of greater diameter than the opening 7 so that a flange portion 9 is formed by the annular portion of the layer 6 around the opening 7 orjlabel'12'pasted or otherwise permanently secured to the lower face of the closure mem Z5 ber 10 and base 4 to seal the closure member 10 in place. r
The intermediate portion B is provided with an annular wall 13 corresponding in peripheral extent with the shoulder 1 and having an inner diameter substantially corresponding with theouter diameter of the annular wall 2 so that the wall 13 may receive the wall 2 of the lower portion A. The wall 13 has a plane intermediate wall portion 14 secured thereto to form the bottom or base of the, upper compartment. To this base 14 and inside the wall 13 there is secured the annular wall 15, leaving a shoulder at 16 between the walls 13 and 15. The wall member 13 is preferably of sufficient extent so that whenits outerfree edge engages the shoulder 1,thebaseportion 1% will be spaced from the .The annular wall 18 and destructible seal '19 are initially prepared and supplied to the filling station where they are filled with the 1% This lower portion 05 I A is initially prepared as aforesaid with the desired'powder, in the presentinstance the day face powder, and thereupon the outer surface of the wall 18 has formed thereon asuitabl'e adhesive substance whereupon the intermediate portionB is forced down with theinner face of the wall 15 sliding on the outer faceof the wall 18 until itis-driven home to the position indicatedinjFig. 1;

' ith a multiple compartment face powder box constructed 'a's aforesaid, the container portions for the face powder can'be separate fly filled and'two cover'members provided for the two container portions, which may be spaced, in their final asseniblyfrom the up- The spaces formed above per Jdestructible sealof the container portions, and yet: when the cover members are, 7 in place'on'bothcontainer portions, a unitary p I v tilled withthe desired faceflpowdenthe night the seals 3 :and
structure is provided,
19 serve several'important functions. In the first place, dueto 'the fact that'these face powder boxes aroused on ornamental dressing tables and the-like, face powd er box man'- ufacturers have vied with one'another in prodiicing boxes that are highly artistic both in shape and color. When the spaces formed above the seals 3 and 19 are provided, the
shape of the box need not be determined by the quantity of powder contained 'thereiini the seal properly'anchoring the powder por- '-tion in place irrespective of'the dimensii'nr 1 of'the'spaces formed above theseals, and the spaces therefore be determined only accord ing'to the design of box desired. In the next place, after the seals are broken and the boxes have come into use, the provision of a- 7 space above theupper level of the surfaceof the powder is highly desirable to prevent the powder being squirted through the sides" of'the cover when pressing the-cover into lace the s )aces rovidin air cushion chambers' for .the air extruded in such closing action whlch will be sufficient tope'rm t the air extruded to gradually leak out without unduly agitating the powder and carrying italong during such extruding action. a
With'a multiple compartment face powder box made a'sflaforesaid, it is also apparent" that there is little {danger of spilling the powder, when either face powder contain:-

similarly,"the cover portion C"i'is identical with ftlie'cov er portion G of the'enihodiment 7' illustrated in Figs, lvto Merely the portion Adifl'ers from the portion A ofthe embodiment illustrated in Figs- 1 resend therefore the portion A- alone will be described in detail; 7 5 V a t Q The portion A of the embodiment illus.-'
trated in Figs. 6 and 7 comprisesanannular wall 25 'securedto the inneriface of the'flange V 26 of the base portion 27. Tothe inner face of the wall 25 is secured the outer face of the annularwall -28 of the container portion having secured thereto theseal-29. The annu lar wall 28 and seal 29', as illustrated in Fig.
7, is'suppliedtothefilling station where it'is f )owder-inthe resent instance. Thereu on in 'F-ig.- 7, a nd after having a suitable adhesive substan'ce secured to the outer faceof the wall 28, such base'portion A is pressed the-basefportion' A. is inverted as illustrated 2 down until the free edge 30 of the wall 28 en i will be substantially at the level of the free edge 31 of the annular .wall 25. The innerdiface of. the wallfiorso that the wall 13 can slide over the Wall2'5 and rest on the fiange" gages the base portion 27, when the seal29 26 1 height of the wall 13 as'compared to the'wall 25 is sufiicient so that a space Will 1':' 0f the intermediate portion Bi With the exception of the" change beformed between the seal 29 and the base ture of the lower portion A,the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 6 and '7 is; substantially the sameas the embodiment illustratedin Figs. lto 5 and" performs the same function substantially: V A l It is obvious that various changes andmodihcati'ons may be made to the details ofconstruction without departing from the gen set forth in eral spirit-of the invention as the appended claims. I claim I i in struc v 1; In a multiple compartment "face pow-' der-box, the 'conibination'withalower powder container having a seal, 'of an interme" d-iate portion'composcdof anuppen powder container having a seal and a cover for the lower powder container, andan upper cover for the upper powder container, the cover of the intermediate portion being spaced from the lowercontainer, and the upper cover being spaced from theupper container.
