Description

Dec. 16 1930. F. SPAETH ET AL DRY MOP Filed July 23, 1930 Patented Dec. 16, 1930 UNITED STATES FRANK SPAETH ANI) TAMARA SPAETH, OF HAMDEN, CONNECTICUT DRY MOI Application filed July 23,
This invention relates to an improvement in dry mops, that is, mops particularly designed for removing dust from floors, and
. consisting of an oblong frame to which a handle is pivoted, the frame being covered with a fibrous'material suitable for dry mopping.
One objection to the use of these mops is the difiiculty of shaking them to free them from dust. The common way is to shake them out of a window, but this requires considerable strength and imposes unnecessary labor upon the user.
The object of this invention is to provide the mop with means whereby it may be readily shaken and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a dry mo constructed in accordance with our invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig 2.
In carrying out our invention, we employ a frame 5 of the desired shape, usually oblong, and mounted on the frame are cross-bars 6 and 7, perforated to receive the outwardlyturned fingers 8 of a fork 9 secured to the handle 10.
Secured to one 1930. Serial No. 470,059.
mop, the mop is held suspended from its upper end with one hand, and with the other hand the grip 15 is moved rapidly up and down so as to rock the frame with relation to the handle, and this rapid rocking shakes the mop in a more effectual way than can be done by moving the main handle up and down, and with expenditure .of less force than would otherwise be required.
This attachment is so simple that it may be so readily applied to mops of various constructions, either in the course of manufacture or after the mops have been in use.
We claim:
1. A dry mop comprising a frame covered as with fibrous material, said frame provided with cross-bars, a handle pivotally connected with said Crossbars, a rod movably mounted on said handle, the lower end of the rod deflected and connected with one side of the frame.
2. A dry mop comprising a frame covered with fibrous material, a handle pivotally connected with said frame, a rod coupled with one side of the frame and extending toward the upper end of the handle and adapted to be moved longitudinally with respect thereto.
In testimony whereof, we have signed this ient to the upper end of the handle 10, where r 40 it is provided with a horizontally-arranged grip 15. The mop is operated in the usual way and when in use the rod 13 performs no function, but slides freely back and forth through the eyes 14 so as not to interfere with 45 the movement of the handle 10.
It is obvious that the rod may be mounted in .a variety of ways and we therefore do not wish to be understood as limiting our invention to the precise method shown.
50 When, however, it is desired to shake the specification. I
FRANK SPAETH. so TAMARA SPAETH.
