IMPROVEMENT IN COFFEE-MILLS.-

ings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same maybe distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured Letters Patent of the United States. My invention relates to that class of mills which are made use of for grinding cofl'ee, spices, 850.; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and describedthat is to say, in arranging the gearing below the grinding apparatus, and in such relation to the chutes as to avoid any injury to the contents of the hoppers, which might otherwise ensuefrom the lubrication or wear and tear of overhanging mechanism.
In the accompanying drawings, H H designate the hoppers, and 0 o the grinding apparatus, of ordinary construction, beneath which the gearing which rotates the shafts s s is arranged. 0 represents the driving-wheel, having cogs which engage with cogs upon the pinion D. The said pinion is connected by means of the shaft E with a pinion, F, which engages with the wheel 9 upon the shaft I-of the coffee-mill. N designates a spur-gear on spindle 7c of the spice-mill, which may be made to engage with the gear 9.
By this construction, the shaft K which operates the spice-mill may be rotated by the same gearing which rotates the shaft I of the cofi'ee-mill.
I claim- The vertically-adjustable spur-gear N, gears g and 9 upon the shaft I of the coffee-mill, pinion F, and shaft E, when combined together as described, and arranged beneath the grinding apparatus and chutes.
