"This invention relates to metal weatherstrips particularly adapted for metal windows equipped with swinging sashes.
The invention has for its principal object to provide a simple Vand eflicient metal strip which can be easily and cheaply applied without any alteration'of the window frameor sash. Other objects are to render the weatherstrip operative for all variations of the' width of the joints between the window frame and sash, to prevent rattling of the sash without binding or Without interfering with the easy operation thereof, and to cushion the closing movement of said sash.
The invention consists principally in the hereinafter described weatherstrip and in the parts and in the arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed. i In the accompanyingdrawing which forms part of this specification and wherein like symbols refer to like parts wherever they occur,

4Referring to the accompanying drawing, the invention is shown in connection with a metal casement window comprising a window frame A and a sash frame B pivotally mounted atp-one side of the window frame by means of hinges C so as to swing outward; but the inventionV is applicable to other types of windows having steel or woodenframes or sashes. As shown in 'the drawing, the` window framefAis made up of `rolled steel frame members 1, each of which comprises a web 2 having'lateral side flanges disposed on each side thereof at the inside and outside `faces of the frame. As shown in the drawing, the flanges 3 on the outer` face of theweb `2 of each frame member are of the same width; whereas'the flanges on the inner side of said web are of different width, the narrowflange 4 being located at the outside face of the window frame and forming an inwardly extending rib at the outside edge of the sash receiving opening, and the wide flange 5 being located at the inside `face of the frame and forming the inside edge of the sash receiving opening.
The sash frame B is made up of rolled steel frame members 6, each of which comprises a web portion 7 having ` lateral side flanges 8 and 9 respectively, disposed on the outer face of the web and a single lateral side flange 10, disposed on the inner face of said web. The lianges Sand `9 on the outer face of the web are of different width, the narrow flange 8 being located at the inside face of the sash and adapted to be overlapped by the wide flange 5 of the adjacent frame member of the window frame in the closed position of thesash; and the wide `flange 9 of the sash frame member'being located at the outside face of the sash and adapted to overlap the narrow flange 4 of the adjacent frame member of the window frame when the sash is closed. The single flange 10 on the inner sides of the web 7 of each sash frame member 6 is located at the inside face of the sash and cooperates with said webs to form rabbets in which the panes of glass 11 are set. The glass panes are bedded in putty 12 and are held in the rabbets by a retaining stri p 13 secured to the web.
The joints between the meeting edges of the window frame A and sash frame B are rendered weatherproof and dustproof by means of resilient metal weatherstrips D. Each of the weatherstrips *D comprises a flat main body portion 14 having a hemmed side marginal edge 15, which is perforated, as at 16, to receive a fastening member, and a longitudinally extending side marginal corrugation or hollow rib 17, whose outer wall is extended beyond the flat main body portion of the strip to form a resilient sealing flange 18 which terminates in a hollow bead 19.
The weatherstrips D are mounted in the sash receiving opening of the window frame A with their body portions 14 secured fiatwise to the inner faces of thewebs 2 of the frame members 1 yof said window frame by means of screws 20, which pass thro-ugh the perforations 16 provided therefor in the hemmed marginaledges l5 of said weather'- strips. Among the advantages of my invention is. the facility with whicli'it may be applied. In all cases the weatherstrip may be qnic'kly and. easily applied't'o the window without any alteration 'of theiraine or sash, merely by swinging open the sash and applying they strip directly tothe. face ofthe sash receiving opening'of-the window. frame..
