l .The present invention relates to portableelectric Vlamps operated byy a battery and adapted to be either suspended from'some support' or to be carried in the hand.v The special use for which the present, electric lamp has been' designed is for use `as a safety lamp in' mines and the like places, where there-is danger of igniting explosive gases if an open flame or spark is permitted to come into contact with the gases. It has been generally employed as what is known as a trip-lamp-7 and 'is attached to the'edge of a mine car to indicate the presence or advance of said car in saidmine, and as a warning to others of its presence or movement in such mine. This electric lamp may also be removed from said car and carriedin the hand, Y
if desired at any time.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a safety lamp adapted to be easily and quickly suspended from a mine car. i

tric lamp whichshall be light'in weight, and having a handle readily adapting it to be carried inthe hand.

which will more fully appear from the fol-' lowing specification, my invention relates to the combination of parts to provide the new and novel construction shown, and to produce the new and novel results outlined hereinafter. The electric lamp shown in the accompanying drawings is especially adapted for use in mines, and other similar places, where there is liable to be explosive gases, which cause fire a and explosion if they are permitted to come into Contact with the flame, or any spark from the lamp. Said lens is also set deeply withinsaidbezel, and well protectedagainst danger of contact with objects `which might break it.
