Application filed January 6, 195 23 Serial No. i245pl2 In this type of tag the attaching means comprises a soft metal wire in the form of a hook clip extending from one edge of the tag to receive and be engaged over an edge of the fabric to be tagged and bent with the lap folding of the fabric upon itself tucking the hook of the clip'within the folds of the fabric, attaching the tag without pricking the goods. These tags are used for classes of merchandise which would be injured or damaged by the use of a pin type of fastener which usually pierces through the goods for attaching the tag.
V The present method relates to the method of anchoring the wire clip endswholly within the interior of the tag body or between ply layers thereof, so as to completely enclose or.
imbed the clip ends within the tag. Under the prevailing methods the clip is secured to the tag by crimping the ends of the clip through the tag material and clinching the same, leaving the ends of the clip exposed or adapted to be wedged outwardly so that they will protrude from the tag and be in a position to readily prick into the fabric and cause in ury or damage thereto.
It is, therefore, an object of the invention to secure the clip to the tag with the prong ends of the clip engaged into the body of 5 the tag or between ply layers thereof securely anchoring the clip within the tag material.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tag of plural ply having a fold edge from which the clip fastener extends forming an overlap for the ends of the clipanchored between the layers of the tag.
According to the present invention the prongs or limbs of the clip pierce the fold edge of a plural ply tag with the ends of the prongs engaged between the plys and bent to an angle or loop to increase its anchoring hold. The ends of the prongs are thrown out of line with the prongs at the points where theprongs pierce through the fold 5 edge of the tag. In providing the tag of plural ply and representedas' apiece of ma terial folded upon itself, manufacture of the tagj and the application of the fastener is: facilitated, for in'productiontagsare madef;

The invention relates primarily to the means employed for anchoring the clip to and within the tag, so that its anchoring ends are completelyenclosedand securely engaged to .the tag and bound by the material of the tag.
This particular style of fastener leaves extion of the clip from the tag;
posedno point of a wire which could efi'ect injury or damage to the goods or 1n ury to anyone handling the goods.
l/Vith the tag represented as of plural ply I formed by folding the, material upon itself provides a fold edge 2 selected as the top or head edge of the tag from which the clip 3 extends.
