This invention relates to tabulating machines of the t pe wherein data are taken from perforated cards to control accumulating and printing operations of the machine.
The main object of the invention is to improve generally upon machines of this character; as for instance, by so constructing and arranging the parts and the mode of operation as to obtain greater operating speed and a higher degree of reliability than is at present possible. It is also aimed to increase the usefulness of this class of machines by producing a machine capable of a greater range of results.
Another object is to provide means whereby any one or more of the type bars may be controlled to suppress printing thereby without suppressing accumulating operations of the corresponding accumulator wheels.
Another object is to provide a machine wherein the printing of a character in a particular column will control the printing of zeros to the right of such column and also to provide means whereby a split may be effected at any point along the printing line beyond which such control shall not extend.
Anothenobject is to provide means whereby when atype bar which carries the accumulated racks rises beyond the 9 position, suppression of the carrying operation from the corresponding accumulator wheel to the wheel of the next higher order may be cf fected, so that the adding of 10 to any given accumulator wheel, besides placing such wheel in the position which it occupied before, will also leave the wheel of the next higher-order in its former position.- Other objects will appear in the following description of the invention.
