This screening material 12 may be of any foraminous material such as wire mesh, or other like materials used in the manufacture of screens. The material 12 has ofcou'rse one end thereof fixed in any suitable manner to the intermediate portion of the roller 9, the opposite or free ends of the screen having secured thereto and extending for the full width of the screen a suitable stiifening material 13. This stifiening member 13 may be in the nature of a substantially, U-shaped elongated strip of metal between the legs of which the said end of the screen may be clenched or otherwise secured therebetween. n I
To provide suitable guide means for the screen, each of the frame members 66 have their inner opposed faces provided with oppositely disposed grooves 14, said grooves extending upwardly from the lower end, of the respective inner faces of the said members to terminate at a-point intermediate the ends ofthe frame members. The opposite longitudinal edges of the screen material12 are receivable in the respective grooves, as is also the opposite end of the stilfening member 13, inthis manner there being provided a neat and tight fit between the frame of the window and the screen,'it being intended to permit of course, the sliding movement of the screen between the said side members of the frame.

Assuming that the roller 9 is journaled 1n the lower end of the frame A or adjacent the sill 5, as illustrated in the drawings, it will be seen that by unwinding the screen 12 from the roller the flexible members 19 will wind themselves about the roller 9 since obviously theiroller 9 will be rotated in one direction during the unwinding of the screen 12 there on. The winding of the members 19 will of course continue until the screen 12 has been unwoundto extend upwardly in the frame to abut the lower cross member of the window section which has been raised. to an open position, thescreen enclosing the opening as is illustrated.
Conversely, when the screen is moved downwardly to be wound upon the roller 9, the members 19 will unwind to move downwardly in the groove 14, obviously such being the re sult since the members 19 have one end thereof connected with the stiffening member 13 as illustrated and described. In this manner the groovesl l also actfas a guide for the flexible members 19. Obviously, also such unwindingof the members 19 will actuate the roller 9 so as to permitthe windingof the wire screen 12 thereabout.
From theforegoing description, it will be appreciated that this screen is adapted to be actuated independently of thewindow section 8-8. However to afford a connection between the stiffened edge of the screen and the adjacent frame member of one of the window sections 8, in the embodiment i1 lustrated, the connection being between the outer window section 8 and the screen, there is provided inthe lower face in the window sash, or bottom cross member of the window a groove 21 extending from one end to the other of the sash. This groove is of suflicient width as to receive the outer edge of the stiffening member 13, said member fitting snugly within the groove, so that when the window section 18 is in a lowered or closed window 8 for urging the same downwardlyin the frameto a closed position as is also the case in the ordinary manner of closing windows of this type.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an improved roller screen for association with slidin very simple in construction, economical, :posiwindows which is tive in operation, and which may be so incorporated in the window structure as to be operated either simultaneously with or independently of the window for moving the ets secured to the side members of'the frame and adjacent one end of the frame, said brackets being of substantially U-shaped formation, means for securing the legs of the brackets to the frame, said brackets have ing the crown portion thereof provided with a longitudinally extending slot, a roller havmember trained over said roller and secured at one end to the free end of the flexible screen member, a pulley over which the second mentioned flexible member is adapted to be trained, and means for'rot-atablymounting said pulley to the support remote from said bracket. 1
