This is done by hooking into the stirrup or placing a block between the stirrup and the hook ofi post.
The modification of my invention shown in Figure 5 of the drawing embodies the following characteristics. I
A rod member or shaft 26 is preferably fixedly connected, by any suitable means,to a cross bar, not shown, and located in spaced relation to a well rod, such as indicated at 27 and immediately beneath same.
An ear 28 of the triangular shape is provided with an enlarged portion 29 upon one side of the base therefor, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 5 of thedrawing. One end of the enlarged portion 29 is tapped to accommodate the adj accnt threaded end of the shaft 26.
A handle member 30, pivotally mounted, as at 31, upon the same side of the ear 28, with relation to the enlarged portion 29, carries a weighted arcuate shaped eccentric 32 having its rounded face serrated or otherwise roughened for biting engagement with the adjacent upper surface of the pull rod 27. 7
By reason of the fact that the enlarged portion 29 of the ear 28 is thre adedly engaged with the adjacent end of the shaft 26, a half turn of the enlarged portion upon the shaft in either direction will dispose the lever and eccentric therefor in its respective working positions.
lVhe-n the pull rod 27 is shifted for oscillatory movement toward the cross bar, not shown, that is, after the modified form of hook off device is set up inworking position, said rod will travel its limit and upon the slightest retrograde movement, the arcuate shaped face of the eccentric will bitingly engage the adjacent upper surface of the pull rod and force the under side thereof against the upper surface of the enlarged portion 29. The hook upon the extremity of the reach arm will then ride out of the stirrup in the ad jacent end of the pull rod as the latter dropsor is sprung down.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A hook-01f device for well rods comprising a cross bar, a pull rod slidably mounted thereon, a reach arm, a stirrup carried upon one end of the pull rod for connection with the reach arm, a U-bolt mounted for rocking movement upon the cross bar adjacent the reach rod, hook members carried by and operable in conjunction with the pull rod selec- HARLEY H.
