\ This invention has relation to mechanical tcys of that character in which a human figureis constructed and arranged so as to appear to simulate in its motions certain inter- 5 esting and instructive work, and particularly to that class in which the movement of the figureV produced by a current ofair blown by a child. through a tube is associated with a whistle so as to impart to the toy the com l bined interesting and amusing effects of both motion and sound. l

The present invention consists in the novel construction of a toy, comprising a pipe or tube through which a current of air may be l blown fromthe mouth of a child and which is provided with a whistle aperture andlip at its outer end, and further comprising a radi ally vaned wind wheel mounted on a vcrank shaft Vand operatively connected to the `arms 2@ of a figure, said wheel being so located as t0 be acted on androtated by a-current of alr blown through a branch opening, in the whistle tube, whereby when the wheel is so` rotated the arms of the figure will follow the motions of the crank shaft and be causedto simulate the body movements of a gure actually turning the shaft instead of being operated by the movements of the shaft.

The standards and wheel are so arranged that the jet proceeding from the port Twill'strike the vanes and cause the wheel to turn with more or less rapidity, in an opposite direction to that of the air liet. l l

The figure, representing a man or body consists of the legs 15, rigidly mounted on the` block 3, the trunk or body portion 16 liointed to the legs, and the arms 17 jointedly attached to the trunk and having hands 18 pivotally attached to the crank of the shaft.

As will be seenV when the pipe is blown` through it will emit a whistlingsound, and

at the same time the wind wheel will be rotated thus causing the arms to follow the rotation of the crank and the body of the figure to sway to and fro in substantially thesame manner as would be swayed the body of a man or boy in the act of turning a shaft by means of a crank.

What I claim as new is y A toy comprising a platform, standards on said platform, a crank shaft supported by said standards, av ointed figure representing a man standing on said platform between said standards and having its arms coupled to the crank as in the act of rotating said shaft,

a wind wheel mounted on said shaft and rol tatable therewith, said wheel having radially disposed vanes, an air passage in said platform below and opening at the surface of the block, said passage being arranged and adapted to directa blast of air therethrough against said vanes to rotate the'wheel, a blow pipe attached to the platform, a passage through said block in alignment with the bore of the pipe, and communicating with` the first named passage and a whistle at the outlet end of the aligned passage through ythe block.
