March a, This invention relates to :vegetable hullers for shelling peas, beans and like pod enclosed berries,,and pertains to animproved feeder for the type of machine disclosed in Letters Patent No. 1,615,081, granted me in the United StatesJannary 18,1927. While the drawingsillustrate a preferred embodimentof the invention, it is to he un-' derstood that in adapting the 'means to meet 1e specific needsand requirements, the design may be varied and such other changes in the minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the invention as claimed, without departing from the spirit thereof. 1 V

The machine includes a casing which is of sectional formation to admit of ready removal of the shelling or hulling rolls for;
cleaning. The members 1 and 2 comprislng the casing are hingedly connected at 3 to admit of the member 1 swinging outwardly and rearwardly at its lower end.

This opening isopposite the discharge opening 9 formed inthe rear side of't'he cas-' ing and receivesthefeeder; Loops 15 project forwardlyfrom'thecasing and are disposed at the sides of theve'rtical portion 1 1 of the feed opening. The feedencomprises a hopper '16, a spout 17and a chute 18. The spout 1 7 is wide and flatand tapers throughoutits lengthas indicated most clearly in Figures 3 a. .The hopperlii is narrow and tapers throughout its length and extends some dis tance above and forwardly of the spout 17. A space is left between the outer or front wall of the hopper and the adjacent end of the chute for the escape of any of the peas or seed thatrmay fly forwardly after being released from the pods or hulls. Inwardly disposed flanges 19 at the top of the hopperl6 prevent any of the peas from discharging throughthe top of; the hopper during the active operation of the machine Openings 20 formed in the'upper" marginal portion of theouteror front wall of the spout 17 receive the loops 15, keys2l being thrust'through said loops to retain the feeder in place. The upper rear portion of the feeder is shaped to obtain a close fit against the front side of the casing, the chute l8 projecting through the feed iopening 13l4 and terminating a short distance from thespace formed between the shelling rolls 480 as toJdeliver the peas closed vegetable to said rolls in proper position for hulling. 7 V

In the practical operation-of theinvention the peas or beans to be shelledare scalded and are supplied to the hopper 16 and are directed by the chute 18 to the shelling rolls which are-slowly rotated by means of the operating handle '5. The pods or hulls pass between the rolls 4 and are received upon the plate 10 and directedinto a suitable receptacle not shown. The. peas, berries or seeds released fromthe pods drop into the spout 17 and are directed into a suitable receptacle, not shown. The juices expressed from the pods or hulls collect in the bottom of the casing and pass to one end thereofi'and escape through an-opening 2-2. A, guard 23 secured to the bottom side of the casing opposite, the opening 22 directs the juicesoutwardly 'so asto be received suitably pla'ced receptacle, not shown. The arrangement is such that thefeeder and the hulling rolls may be "readily detached to "admit :of thorough cleaningwhich .is essential in a machine of this nature. The parts may be readily assembled and made secure, as will be readily appreciated. r
-Having thusdescribed the invention, I claim:- 1. A' machine of the character specified comprising vertically disposed hulling rolls,
. a-casingenclosing the hulling rolls and having a front feed opening and a reardischarge opening, a the lowerpart of the casing and having por tions spaced therefrom adjacent the 'dis charge opening, and a deflecting plate provided with lugs detachab'ly engaging the spaced portions of said reinforcing plate to admit ofits ready removal and replacement.
2. ,A machi'ne of the character specified comprising vertically disposed hulling rolls,
or other pod en- I plate secured toand reinforcing a casing enclosing the hulling rolls and having a front feed opening including an upper narrow portion and a lower wide portion, a spout fitted to the casing about the lower wide portion of the feed opening, and having the upper portion of its front wall cut away to register with the upper narrow porti'on'of the feed opening, a hopper mounted upon the front wall of the spout and extending upwardly and forwardly therefrom and liaviiig itsre'ar wallcut away to register with the upper narrow portion of the feed opening and the cut away portion of the front wall of the spoutand having its upper portion fitted tothe casing about the said narrow portion of the feed opening, and a chute Within and extending across the hopper and spout and inclining rearwardl r and downwardly to deliver the peas between the hulling rollers and having its front, end spaced from the front wall of the hopper.
