FLOOR MOP Filed Oct. 26. 1929 atto/:14111 V1n frame and Patented Sept. 30, 1930 PATENror-np N BARNETT GEnsnoVrrz", or` CANTON, oHro FLOOR 'Mor Application med october 26,1'1929. serial Vnoi 402,621.
The invention relates to ioor mops and more particularly to a mop provided with a wringing device therefor; the present application being an improvement upon my Patent z llo. 1,632,117 0, dated J une 14, 1927.
` The object of the improvement is to simplify and improve mops of this general character. l Y y An embodiment of the inventionis illusi@ trated in the `accompanying drawing, in
which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved mop Fig. 2, a plan sectional `view of the mop Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
`Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawing.
The handle is provided, near itsv lower end, with the crank 11 pivoted therethrough and having the elongated loop 12 upon one end and the crank handle 13 upon the other end.
rlhe mop frame is indicatedv generally at 14E and formed of a single heavy wire or rod bent uponitself at its middle portion as at 15 and having the oppositely disposed eyes or loops 16, both ends-of the wire frame eX- 1 tending' forward in parallel relation as at 17 3o and then preferably outward at an angle as as at 13 and again forward in parallel reltionlas at 19, each having the U-shaped portion 20 terminating in the upwardlyand inwardly disposed angular portion 21.
The fixed jaw 22 of the mop is preferably formed of sheet metal bent upon itself, providing a double thickness at 23 and having the transversely concave forward edge 24:. y
located between the folds 23 and fixed therein by any suitable and well known manner, asindicated at 25. The movable jaw 26 is formed of heavy wire or rod, having' the straight portion 27 adapted-to be received in the concave face 24 of the fixed jaw, the ends thereof being turnedback as at'27a and then curved toward each other as at 28, terminat-H ing in the spa-ced aligned straight portions 29. A lever 30 s provided for `operating the movable jaw. This lever may be formed of sheet metal `having the handle portion 31` and the angular legs 32, the end portion of each leg being pivoted to the corresponding intnrned end 21 of the frame, said endsn of the frame being upset as at 33. The aligned ends f 29 of the movable jaw are pivoted through intermediate portions of the legs 32 and upset as at 34.
`A sheet Inet-al plate 35 is attached to the intermediate reduced portion of the frame as by the lugs36 and 37 and provided with the spaced upright ears 38 to whiehthe lower end portion of the handle 10 may be pivotally connected as by the pin 39.
The mop cloth 40 is adapted to be attached '3 to the handle by runningthe same'through' the loop 12, the ends of the mop cloth being passed over the straight portion 27 of the movablej aw. After the mop cloth has been thus attached, the mop isplaced in the posi- F ltion shown in Fig. 1 and is ready for use.
Downward or forward pressure upon the handle 10 causes the frame to lieflat .upon the floor, flattening the mop cloth and holding it to the floor during the mopping operation.
`VVhen it is desired to wring the mop, the handle may be raised to a substantially horizontal position, permitting the frame and jaws to hang. downward therefrom and the crank handle 13 may then be turned, twisting the mop cloth and wringing the water from the same.
then it is desired to remove the mop cloth, it is only necessary to swing the lever 30 forward-into the dotted line position shown in...` Fig. 3, moving the movable jaw25away from the fixed jaw, permitting the end of the mop cloth to be easily removed and a new cloth The U-shaped port-ions 2O of the frame are to be replaced and clamped therein by swing` ing the Vlever back to the normal position f shown in full lines in all of the figuresof the drawing. f
I claim: Y
1. Ainop including a handle, a frame pivotally carried by the handle, theframe oomvl' prising a portion formed of wire havingv forwardly extending spaced legs provided with inturned ends, a fixed j aw carried by the forward portion of the legs, a lever pivoted to the inturned ends of the legs, and a movable f 1GO v jaw pivot-ally connected to the lever and eooperating with the fixed jaw for clamping a mop cloth therebetween..
2. A mop including ahandle, a frame pvtoally Carried by the handle, the frame cornprising aA portion formed of Wire having for- Wardlyextendng spaced legs provided with upturned andl inturned ends, a IiXedja-W Carried by the forward portion of the legs, a lever Y pivoted to the inturned ends of the legs, and a movable jaw pivotally connected to the lever and cooperating With the fixed jaw for ela1nping a mop cloth therebetween.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed lny name.
BARNE'IT GERSHOVITZ.
