DIAL TELEPHONE LOCK Filed out. A22, 192e Patented Sept. 30, 1930 UNITED STA-TES PATENT OFFICE j i FLORENCE n.1 MAGARTHY, or MARYsvALE, UTAH DIAL-TELEPHONE Loox i Application filed. October 22, 1928. Serial No. 314,250.
This invention relates to locks for preventing the Vuse of telephones for outgoing calls where the telephones are provided with dials.
A The invention comprises a padlock adapted 5; to interlock with the dial plate so as to prevent the turning of the dial far enough to register a call.
l An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
10, which 1liI lock.
Figure l represents a plan view of a tele- 'phone base equipped with a dial and lock. Figure 2 is a side view, and 1 Figure 3 is a perspective view of the'padlock being presented in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure l. In this position the Y arm 7 can be slid under thefouter rim of the in the dial, for example, the one designated y M. N. O., the location of thebolt 5 in the look being such as to prevent the lock being moved either forward or back. The lock thus becomes a rigidpart of the dial. y' The arm 7, projecting as it does beyond the periphery of the dial, is made long enough tov impinge againstthe supporting column 2 when an attempt is'made to turn the dial', and by thus interfering with the free turning of the dial, it
allowed to'pass down into the hole.V The lock l acts as a stop and prevents the dial fromfunctioning. While I have shown the stop member v7 as impinging against the column 2, it is evident that any other projection may be used to interfere with its free motion.l `It will. be noticed thatwhile the lock presents ameans Y of preventing the use of the telephone for outgoing calls, it nevertheless interferes in no way with the receipt of incoming messages.
I claim l. A lock for dial telephones adapted to be removably mounted upon a telephoneA dial,
said lock having a key-operated bolt to engage one of the holes of the dial, and a stop member adapted to engage Vin another of the holes of the dial and project from the dial to enga ge a fixed part of the telephone to limit the movement ofthe dial.
lock *having a key operated member adapted to engage in one of the holes of the dial, and' i 2. A lock for dial telephones comprisingin 'l combination a telephone base and column, a
a stoprmember adapted to engage in another 3 Vof the holes of the dial, said stop member be-` Y ing locked to the dial by the key operated member and extending beyond the periphery of the dial far enough to impinge against'the p' column to prevent the turning of the dial. dial until an oiset shoulder 9 on the arm is Y 3. A lock for dial telephones comprising Y in combination adial telephone having a base f n upon which a dial isi'nountedI rotatably, a column rising romthe base, a dial lock having a lock case containing a key operated l member, projections on the case adapted to enter two holesin the dial and lock therein Vwhen the key operated member is thrown, one
of the said projectionsbeing adaptedto im pinge against the said Column-to prevent theoperation 'of the dial. A L Y. 4. A lock for dial telephones adapted to be removably mounted upon a'telephone dial,
said lock having a bolt to engage one of the holes of the dial, a stop member adapted to engage inanotherrof the holes ofthe dial and project from the dial to engage a fixed part i of the telephone to limit the movement of the dial, and key-actuated means for disengaging said bolt from a dial hole.
