This invention relates to dumping buckets and more particularly to that class of buckets in which the body is adapted to antomatically tilt to discharge its load, and has for its object the provision of a novel latch or locking mechanism for saidbuckets adapted to prevent the accidental tilting of the v bucket when loaded.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, the numeral 2 designates the body of the bucket which is of usual shape and construction and is provided with trunnions 3 at each side. 7
A bail member 4 is fitted overthe' body 2 and has its arms 5 pivotally mounted on the trunnions 3. The arms 5 are inclined outwardly from their lower ends upwardly for a material distance so as to space said arms from the sides of the bucket body.
Brackets 6 are secured to each side of the body and extend upwardly andhave their upper ends engaged over the trumuons 3 so as to support said trunnions and also prevent displacement of the bail arms.
A lock block 8 is rigidly secured to one side wall of the bucket body above the'trunnion 3. The block 8 has a top flange 9 which is curved downwardly and forwardly.
A' locking cam lever 10 is pivotally mounted on the bail arm 5 adjacent said lock-block 8 and has a curved cam flange 12 adapted to cooperate with and engage'the flange 9 of the block 8 to lock the bucket body against tilting movementrelative to the bail 4. The lever 10 has an extended arm portion terminating at its lower end in a hook 14: adapted to be engaged by a bar or hooked rod in the hands of an operator to permit the operator to pull the cam lever rearwardly and release the bucket. v
In order to prevent accidental displacement of the locking cam lever from said locklock a safety latch or dog 16 is pivotally mounted on the arm 5 of the bail above the lever 10 and is adapted to engage a seat 17 formed on the lever 10. lVith the latch or dog 16 engaging the seat 17 the lever is locked in position on the block 8 and, therefore, the bucket body is held in upright posit-ion. WVhen' it is desired torelease the bucket body for dumping it is necessary. to first release the latch or dog 16 and then release the lever 10 as described above. i
The lock-block 8 is in the form of a casting or forging and has a bracket 19 formed integral therewith which is adapted to form a stop to limit the rearward movement of the bucket body relative to the bail 4.
While I have shown and described one specific embodiment of my invention it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited thereto since various modifications may be made without departing from the scope there of, as defined inthe appended claims.
I claim:
1. A dumping bucket comprising in combination a body portion, trunnions carried "by the opposite sides of said body, a bail pivotally connected to said trunnions, a lockblock fixedly mounted on said body, a lever pivotally mounted on said bail and adapted to engage said block to prevent the dumping of said bucket, and a safety latch pivotally mounted on said bail and adapted to be en gaged'with said lever to prevent the accident .al disengagement oi said lever from said block.
2. A dumping bucket comprising in combination a body portion, trunnions carried by the opposite sides of said body, said body being so shaped and said trunnions so positioned that the bucket when loaded will automatically tilt forward and when empty will automatically return to normal position, a bail member having its arms extendingdownwardly on opposite sides of said body and pivotally connected to said trunnions, a lockblockrfixedly mounted on one side of said body, said block being positioned above the trunnion and having a top flange portion which is curved downwardly and forwardly to receive a cooperating locking cam, a lever pivotally mounted on said ball, a convexly curved cam flange on said lever adapted to engage the curved top flange of said lockblock whensaid lever is swung downwardly so as to lock said bucket body against tilting. and means for preventing accidentalflmovement of said lever to disengage said cam flange from said lock-block.
3. A dumping bucket comprising in combination abody portion, trunnions carried by the opposite sides of said body, said body being so shaped and said trunnions so positioned that the bucket when loaded will automatically tiit forward and when empty will automatically return to normal position, a bail 15 member having its arms extending down,
wardly; on opposite sides of said body and fiyotallv connected to said trunnions, a lockblock fixedly mounted on one side of saidbody, said block being positioned above the trunnion and having a top flange portion which is curved downwardly and forwardly to receive a cooperating locking cam alever pivotally mounted on saidbaiha convexly curved cam flange on said lever adapted to engage the curved top flange of said lockblock when said lever is swung downwardly so to lock said bucket body against tilting, and a safety latch pivotally mounted on said bail and adapted to be engaged with 3 said lever to prevent accidental movement of said lever to disengage said cam flange from said lock-block. y
