v., assrenon TO THE LAPIN SPECIALTY MFG. 00.,
INC., 01 NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK HAIR WAVEB Application filed July e7,
An object of the invention is to provide a hair waving device which will be so constructed that the hair treated by the same will not only be arranged in raised ridges, but will also be curved in the valleys or depressions between the adjacent rid es, theree marcel wave to the hair.
Another object of the invention is to provide a wire hair waving device for imparting a wave similar to a marcel wave, and which willbe highly efiicient in use and quite inexpensive to manufacture.
Otherob'ects will appear as the description proceeds. I
Drawings In the accompanying drawings which form 2. art of my application,
igure 1 is aplan view of my improved hair waver showing the same applied to a tress of hair;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the hair waver;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the hair waver showing the same in locked osition;
Fig. 4 is a side'elevation oi the hair waver showing the same in open position, "and Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Figure 6 is a detailed view to show the method of threading the hair.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to-designate corresponding pa Description In carrying out my invention, I provide a substantially rectangular shaped frame or element having spaced parallel sides 1, bein with space restricted loop fasteners 3 at its opposite end. In side elevation, the element 1 1s considerably arched or bowed and the fasteners 3 ex-' tend upwardly at an angle to the plane of the ad acent end of-said element.
. A second frame or element having parallel sides 4, is positioned in the element 1, in spaced relation thereto, and is closed at the end which lies adjacent to and between-the fasteners-3, and is secured to the end of said spaced ridges,

element by a crimped band 5. The opposite ends of the sides 4 are widened as at 6 and lie parallel with the sides of the first mentioned element, and are bent to ether at their ends to be parallel with the adjacent end of said element. Means for holding these adjacent ends together is provided, and. 'comprises a cross-member 6 of sheet metal, a.v portion 7 of which is crimped about the said ends. Portions 8 of the cross-member 6 are crimped about the side elements 1.
A pivoted hair engaging element having substantially parallel spaced sides 9 is loopedat 10 at one end and is bent inwardly at its opposite end, and is pivotally held in a crimped portion 11 of the cross-member f5. The hair engaging element is bowed and i s superimposed at its hin ed end above the previously mentioned e ements, and is adapted to swing down between the adja-' cent pairs of sides 1 an 4 to engage a tress of hair, and the elements having the parallel sides 1 sides 9 of the hair engaging element until the ends of said sides adjacent the 100 d and.
10 are clamped in the fasteners 3. us, it will be seen that the hair will be held in two spaced ridges. While in this position, the person operating the implement may insert their finger in the widened portion of the inner element between the sides 4, and
and 4 will be pressed down over the draw it forward towards the outer end of the element. As a result, the hair midwa between the two ridges is drawn towar s the outer end, while the hair on the ridges or raised portions are held. When the im- Element is removed from the hair, it will e found that the hair is not only raised in but also the hair'between the ridges will be curved, thereby producing an effect similar to a. marcel wave.
Minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States is:
1. A hair waver comprising spaced bowed hair engaging frames, 9. looped'hair enga ing element pivotally supported on said sides which are widened adjacent frames, said looped element having spaced t eir pivoted ends, a cross-member secured to the ends of said frames'and forming a pivot suppoitfor said hair engaging element, and spaced fasteners formed integrally on the outermost frame adapted to receive the outer ends of said hair engaging element.
2. A hair waver comprising spaced bowed hair engaging frames, a looped and bowed hair engaging element pivotally supported on said frames, said looped element having s aced sides which are widened adjacent t eir pivoted ends, a cross-member secured to the ends of said frames and forming a pivot support for said hair engaging element, spaced fasteners formed integrally on the outermost frame adapted to receive the outer ends of said hairengaging element,
and a connecting clip adjacent the fasteners for joining the outer ends of said frames between said spaced fasteners.
