2 3 James (Talk/crass INVENTOR Patented Aug. 26, 1930 JAMES C. CAIRNCRQSS, 0E ITASLIUA, MQNTANA PUMP Application filed July 10,
This invention relates to pumps, and its general object is to provide a pump head with the handle having connection with the pump operating means disposed at the base oi the head and'with the pump rod whereby the latter will be given a direct up and down stroke, with the resultvibration will be eliminated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pump head with its operating handle arranged in a substantial upright position, whereby it can be actuated in an easy and expeditious manner without bending the back of the user, the arrangement also eliminating damage or breakage to the handle.
Another obiect of the invention is to provide a pump head including novel pump operating means which is ext emely simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install, and eiiicient in operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my present invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereon Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 3-8 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 indicates the base of the pump head and which as best shown in Figure 3 is provided with a relatively large substantially rounded portion merging into a relatively small portion, the latter portion being indicated by the reference numeral 2.
Secured to the base and rising therefrom is a body or cylinder 3 of the pump head and this cylinder has formed therewith or otherwise connected thereto the outlet spout 4.
The pump rod which is indicated by the HEAD 19539. Serial No. 377,234.
reference numeral 5 extends through the cylinder 3 in the usual manner and has secured to its upper end a cross head 6 which is provided with spaced parallel apertured ears '7 adapted to have secured thereto a windmill rod or a rod connected with other sources of power whereby the pump may be actuated accordingly.
Secured to the opposite sides of the cylinder and arranged in aligned pairs are guide brackets 8 within which are slidablv mounted rods 9 that have their upper ends secured and passing through the cross head as best shown in Figure 2. The lower ends of the rods 9 terminate in eyes and have pivotally secured thereto the ends of the arms 10 of substantially U-shaped member 11.
Fixed to the small portion 2 are angle brackets 12 that have their upright portions provided with apertures for the purpose of receiving a pivot pin that is mounted for pivotal movement in the apertures and has secured thereto one of the ends of links 13 while the opposite ends of said links are secured to the arms 10 adjacent the bight portion of the U-shaped member 11. Formed with or otherwise secured to the bight portion of the U-shape member 11 and arranged midway the ends thereof is a collar 14 which has fixed therein one of the ends of a handle 15, the latter being disposedl substantially in an upright manner and in convenient reach of the user of the pump.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that I have provided a pump head with a novel operating means associated therewith for operating a pump, whereby the user can stand in an upright position and move the handle 15 in a reciprocatory manner in a vertical plane, with the result the pump can be operated with very little effort. The arrangement of the operating means also provide for a direct up and down stroke of the pump rod, therefore vibration will be eliminated, which will of course prolong the life of the parts, as well as provide a device that is extremely efficient in operation and service.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages one novel features of my invention viii be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that 1 may make changes in the construction and in the combination and zprrengemei of the several parts, provided that such chm ges felt Within the scope of the appended elm 111.
hat I claim is:
A pump head comprising a base, a cylinder secured to and rising from said base, guide brackets secured to the sides said cylinder the upper end and hei W the central portion thereof, rods mounted for slidabie move ment in said guide hre kets c 21d having their lower ends terminating in eyes, a cross head having connection with the pump rod of a pinnpzind secured to the nppr ends of the shdehiy mo" roots, a substantially U- shnpczi mezn' cured to the eyes, {inv said hose a pivot p 1 n c'rr 1 q: (H A new t JKL'YLLL (d th JiLt/clk/ S7 plvotaily secured to the member and pin respe I with and rising from b. In testimony who feel I my signature.
