VINDEX, MARYLAND Lin ron DOUBLE noMiisTio BoiLEias Application flied Aprily 30,
This invention relates to lids especially adapted to 'be` used upon double domestic boilers, and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a lid of the character stated adapted to be applied to the edge of the outer boiler and which Will eectually seal the edge ofthe outer boiler, the said lid having means for holding the pot which is located Within the outer boiler properly spaced therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a lid ofthe character stated means for permitting steamy to escape from the inner pot when desired. y
These and other like objects such as economy in manufacture, durability, etc., are
attained by the novel design and combination of parts of disclosure and in which.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figurel is a vertical section tlirougha double domestic boiler With'my improved lid construction incorporated therein.
Figure 2 isa modified Jform of the lid.
The double boiler with which the lid is used, consists of an outer boiler body l having humps 2 stamped upwardly at its bottoin, A pot 3 is adapted to rest upon the humps 2 and is received within the outer 30 boiler body 1 with its side and bottoni walls spaced from the side and bottom Walls of the said body.
In the form of the invention, as shown in Figure 1, the interior portion of the lid is provided with a dome 16 and about its margins with an annular outstanding bead 17 adapted to rest upon the upper edge ofk the outer boiler body. The lid is further provided With an annular flange 18 which fits snugly Within the upper portion of the boiler body. A ring 19 is provided at its upper edge ith a iange 20 which fits snugly Within the liange 18 and at its lower edge with a flange 21, which fits snugly Within the upper portion of the pot 3.
In the form as shown in Figure 2, thedoine portion 16 of thelid is provided With openings 22, and a plate 23 extends over the dome and may close the openings 22. The plate 23 t0 is provided with a handle 24, and the plate 1928. Serial No. 273,938.
is held in close contact Wit-li the outer surface of the donie 16 by ineans oia spiingpressed bolt 25 mounted at the center vof the lid and located under the handle'26. The peripheral flange of the lid is provided Witli'an internal thread 27 which engages an external thread provided upon a. ring 28, ythe lower portion of Which slips into the upper end of the pot 3.
In both foi-nis ofthe inventionit will bev seen that I have provided a lid which electually seals the upper end of the outer boiler body and the inner pot Aand also holds the inner pot properlyyspaced from the outer boiler body in concentric relation. yA pipe 29 for permitting the steam to escape may be provided, and rserve notr only for permitting the steam to escape but also as an inlet through vvhich Waterk may be poured when replenishing is necessary.
From the foregoing description of the construction of my. improved apparatus, itvvill vbe seen that l have provided a simple, inexpensive and eiiicieiitmeans for carrying' out vthe objects-of my invention and While l have particularly described the elements` best 7 :adapt-ed to perform the functions set forth, .it is obvious that various changes 1n forni,
proportion and inthe minor details oi construction niay be resorted to, Without departing-from the spirit or sacrilicing any of the 'principles of the invention.
It should also bey noted that in each torni of the invention, the lid is provided at the ytop Withfan opening having at one side ra hinge and at the opposite side of the openmg a catch 36. A top is pivotally connected with the hinge and is adapted to be secured over the opening in the lid by the catch 36. Thetop 37 carries the handle 26. A stem 38 passes through the center ofthe top and a spring 39 bears at one end against the top and at its other end against the stein and serves to hold the stein in a lowered position in the top'. A knob AO is carried atthe upper end of the stem above the top and is located under the handle 26. A plate 41 is carried by the stein and is adapted to close over openings 42 provided at the intermediate portion` of the top and located under the handle below the knob. rllhe said openings 42 may be arranged in a circle around the stem.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
l.Y A lid for a double boiler comprising a body having means for sealing the edge of the outer boiler member and a flange adapted to lit snugly within the edge of the outer boiler member, a. ring separately engaged at its upper edge with the flange of the lid and provided at its opposite edge with a flange adapted to lit snugly within the inner boiler member.
2. A lid for a double boiler comprising a body having means lor sealing the edge of the outer boiler member and provided with a fiange adapted to fit snugly within the outer boiler member, a ring having a flange at its upper edge adapted to engage the first nientioned flange, said flanges having threads adapted to engage each other, and the ring being provided at its lower edge with a flange` adapted to fit snugly within the inner boiler member.
3. In a double boiler construction including inner and outer boiler members, a lid therefor comprising` a body having means at its peripheral edge for sealing the edge of' the outer boiler member and separable means en- `gaging portions of said lid and inner boiler member to seal the upper edge of the latter and simultaneously cover the space between the boiler` members and correspondingly space said boiler members concentrically with relation to one another.
4. In a double boiler construction including inner and outer boiler members, the inner boiler member when neste( having its upper peripheral edge in horizontal plane below the plane of the upper peripheral edge of the outer boiler member, a lid therefor comprising a body having means for sealing the edge of the outer boiler member and provided with a depending annular flange adapted te fit snugly within the outer boiler member, a flat upwardly and outwardly inclined ring member separable 'from said boiler members and provided at its outer peripheral edge with an upstanding annular flange adapted .for separable engagement with the inner wall oi the depending flange of sai l lid, the inner peripheral edge of said ring member being provided with a depending` annular flange adapted to engage the inner wall of said inner boiler member to seal the upper edge of the latter and concentrically l space said inner boiler member with respectto the outer boiler member. Y
5. In a double boiler construction including inner and outer boiler members, the inner boiler member when nested having its upper peripheral edge in a horizontal plane below the plane of the upper peripheral edge of the outer boiler member, a lid therefor comprising a body having means for sealing the edge of the outer boiler member and provided with a depending annular flange adapted to fit snugly within the outer boiler member, the inner face of said flange being threaded, a separable flat ring` member inclined upwardly and outwardly 'from its inner to its outer periphery, provided at its outer periphery with an integral upstanding flange, said flangebeing externally threaded and adapted for threaded engagement with the inner wall of the flange on said lid, the inner periphery of said ring member having an integral depending flange adapted for snug engagement with the inner peripheral wall of the inner boiler member at the upper edge of the latter to seal said inner boiler member and Simultaneously space said inner boiler member cuncentrically with respoot to the outer boiler member.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature.
