My invention relates to secondary wall c ocks.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide improved means for mounting a. secondaryl clock mechanism in a wall box.
A further object of my invention is to provide such a construction which willdo away with' the necessity for using the sheet metal rim which surrounds the face of the clock as a vhousing or cover for the fastening means. 4
A further object is to provide such a construction in which the clock may be readily connected and disconnected with respect to the wall box.
A further object is to provide such a construction in which the connecting members permit of an adjustment of the clock with respect to the wall box which will enable the' clock to be positioned right side up.
A further object is to provide a construc-A tion in which the center of ravity of the clock unit is at least as far orward as the point of suspension of the clock so that the part outside of the wall box will hang flat against the wall surrounding the box.
A further object is to improve details of the construction.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the construction shown therein ,comprises a sheet metal wall box 1 having a sheet metal connector strap 2 or loop secured inside it to the top Wall thereof, abase plate or mounting `plate 3 extending across in front of said box and having a hook member 4 secured thereto for engagement with the loop connector memwalls of the sheet metal ber.2 in the box readily connected spect to the box,

The loop 2 is adjustable from front to back by means of a slot l0b in the loop through which the securing screw 10c extends.
The wall box may be formed. of three pieces of sheet metal, the rear or bottom 11 of the wall box being formed from a single square piece of sheet metal, and the sides forming the octagonal portion being formed of two pieces 12 of sheet metal. Each of the side strips 12 forms four sides that when placed together they form a complete octagon. The side members are secured to the bottom member by bending up the four corners 13 of the square bottom piece so that they `extend at right angles to the general of the Octagon soA the Walls of the octagonal portion to which they may be secured as by spot-welding 14 or in an suitable manner. The box maybe provide with circular similar to those provided in electrical outlet boxes.
The cover 16 for the secondary clock mechanism may be detachably secured to the mounting plate by means of a pair of shouldered studs 17 havingl conical heads Which engage in depressions formed in the opposite side walls of the sheet metal cover. The side cover are sufficiently flexible to permit of their being sprung inwardly to pass the shoulders of the headed studs whereupon the sides will spread apart again so that the edges of the conical heads knock-out portions 15 will enter the depressions in the flexible walls to hold the cover in position on the mounting plate. To release the cover the opposite sides of the cover are grasped and forced inwardly suicient to release the flexible sides from holding engagement with the headed studs.
The center of gravity of the construction which is supported by the mounting plate is at least as far forward as the point of suspension 18 of the mounting plate so that there is no tendency for the lower part of the sheet metal rim 9 to hang away from the wall. The inclination of the hook member 4 is such that gravity will aid in-holding the hook member connected with the lloop 2. The hook member is considerably smaller than the opening 19 in the loop through which it extends so that the mounting plate may be swung later- Y ally if desired to enable the clock dial to be l positioned exactly right side up, that is, with the numeral 12 exactly at the highestv point of the dial circle. The glass cover may be held in place by means of a plurality of sheet metal clips 20 secured by screws 21 to mounting lugs 22 riveted to the mounting plate 3, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. The annular rim 9 may be secured to the mounting plate by means of screws 23 extending through the rim and threaded into mounting lugs 24 secured tothe mounting plate.
The mountin lugs 24 are adjustable in and out by means o screws 25 extending through slots 26 in the mounting plate 3 and threaded into the lugs 24.
As shown in Fig. 7, I have found it desirable to make the inner face of the stud `17 conical in order that when the sides of the cover 16 spring outwardly to the position shown in Fig. 7 the edge 27 will engage the sloping face 28 and cause the inner edge of the cover to be drawn snugly against the mounting plate 3, thereby preventing rattling. The edge 27 is formed by cutting and pressing inwardly a lug 29 from the material of the side of the cover.
In installing the clock the entire secondary clock mechanism is mounted on the mounting plate 3, the wires 30 are connected up and theJ mounting plate is then secured'in position by inserting the hook 4 onthe mounting plate into the loop 2 in thewall box.'
It will be seen that the construction described above does away with the necessity for using the sheet metal rim 9 of the clock as a housing or cover for the fastener members thereby enabling the designer to make this annular rim of any desired conguration without having to consider the matter of placing the fastening means therein; that the connecting between the mounting plate and vwall box is such that the clock may be adjusted laterally to enable thedial to be positioned exactly right side up; and .that the construction is such that the center of gravity of the parts mounted on the mounting plate may be at least as far forward as the point of suspension of the mounting plate.
While I have described but one embodiment of my invention, itis obvious that many modi cations therein may occur to those skilled in the art, and I desire, therefore, that my invention be limited only by the scope7 of the appended claims and by the prior art.
claim:
1. A wall box, a mechanical connector member mounted on the upper wall of said box, a base plate extending across in front of said box,- a connector member mounted on said base plate readily engageable and disengageable with respect to the connector member in the box whereby said platemayA be readily connected to extend across in front vofsaid box, a secondary clock mechanism mounted on the rear face of said plate to lie in said box when the plate is'connected, a dial mounted on the front side of said base plate, a bezel'mounted on the front side of said base plate, a glass coverlying against said bezel, and an annular rim covering the edges of said glass cover and bezel, the center of gravity of the base plate assembly being at least as far forward as the point of suspension of the assembly.
2. A wall box, a mechanical connector member mounted on the upper wall of said box, a base plate extending across in front of said box, a' connector member mounted on said base plate readily engageable and disengageable withv respect to the connector member in the box whereby said plate may bereadily connected to extend across in front of said box, a secondary clock mechanism mounted on the rear face of said plate to lie in said box when the plate is connected.
3. A wall box, a mechanical 4connector member mounted on the upper wall of said box, a base plate extending across in front of said box, a connector member mounted onsaid base plate readily engageable and dis engageable with respect to the connector member in the box whereby said plate may be readily connected to extend across in front or said box, a secondary clock mechanism mounted on the rear face of said plate to lie in said box when the plate is connected, the connector member in the box having an opening therein and the connector memberon the plate having a hook for engaging in said'-- opening.
4. A wall box, a mechanical connector member mounted-on the upper wall of said box, a base plate extending across in front of said box, a connector member mounted on said ibase plate readily engageable and disenga eable with respect to the connector mem er in the box whereby said plate may be readily connected to extend across in front ofV said box, 'a' secondary clock mechanism mounted on the rear vface of said plate to lie 1n said box when the plate is connected, said Jl v connector members having provisions whereby the plate assembly may be swung laterally whereby the clock dial may be positioned right-side up.
5. A wall box, a mechanical connector member mounted on the upper wall of said box, a base plate extending across in front of said box, a connectormember mounted on said base `plate readily engageable and disengageable with respect to the connector member in the box whereby said plate may be readily connected to extend across in front 1 of said box, a secondary clock mechanism mounted on the rear face of said plate to lie in said box when the plate is connected, the point of suspension being above the center of gravity and the. connector members having provisions whereby the. plate may swing freely laterally whereby gravity will cause the plate to move to a position in which the dial is right side up.
6. A secondary clock mechanism comprising a wall box, a mounting plate extending across in front of said wall box, a secondary clock mechanism mounted on the rear side of said mounting plate and lying in said v wall box, and a cover for enclosing said sec ondary clock` mechanism carried by said mounting plate, and means for securing said cover to said mounting plate comprising a pair of hooked member for engaging two opposite sides of said cover, the two opposite sides being yieldable toward each other to permit the hooking operation.
