A steel joist construction, comprising a rolled metal beam, a metal stirrup member formed of a strip of plate material bent transversely at a spaced distance from one end thereof to form horizontally7 and anuvularly disposed portions, said angularly disposed portions beingrigidly connected to the web portion of said lbeam-at the end thereof with said horizontal portion projecting therebeyond and adapted to rest on the main building structure, said horizontal portion being deformed with a longitudinal rib therein extending inwardly from the end thereof and terminating at the transverse bend of said stirrup member. ,e

A steeljoist construction, comprising aV rolled beam section having a triangular portion cut from'the end of its web, a'stirrup member formed of a strip of plate metal bent transversely intermediate of its length to form horizontal sloping sections, said slop-V ing sections being placed against-the upwardlyV and outwardly sloping edge of the cut-out portion of the web and having its sides flanged vover and intimately embracing the .web, said flanged sides being welded alongY 'bottom flange, the upper edge thereof being parallel with the flange, a stirrup member formed of a length of steel plate bent transversely at a point inwardly from one end to form a horizontal portion and a sloping portion, said sloping portion being fitted against the upwardly and outwardly sloping edge of the web of thebeam and having its sides bent inwardly to'snugly embrace the beam and welded along its edge extremities to the web surface of said beam, said stirrup being welded at its junction point between said horizontal and sloping portions to the end of the beam, said horizontal portion projecting beyond the weld at the beam end and being deformed to provide a reinforced extension for the beam to be .weldedto the main building structure.

In a building structure, the combination with thel main steel beam, of transverse beams arranged to form joists extending between the main beam, said transverse beams having their webs notched at the ends to form chaces to receive pipes and wires leaving the lower portion of the transverse beams intact to form a support for said pipes and wires, stirrup members rigidly welded to thewebs of said transverse beams andto the upper end edge of the top flange thereof and having reinforced extension ends projecting beyond ltjhe ends of the joists to rest upon the main eam.
