ING COMPANY, on onroaeo, rnninois aconronn'rron or ILLINOIS} SUPPORT FOR- Guarani-non onnAMnn'rs Application filed June 24,
This invention relates to an improved supporting device for the end ornament of curtain rods. One popularstyle of curtain rod The end ornaments are usually mounted on the rod just inwardly of the elbow end portions of} the latter, and extend outwardly so that the elbow end portion of the rod is substantially concealed by the ornament.
. The shank or stem portion of the ornament is flexible andrather easily bent. so that not infrequently the ornament, in the shipment or subsequent handling of the rod, becomes more or less displaced from its true position substantially in line with the main portion of the rod, where a plain C-shaped clip. attached to the shank of the ornament and embracing the rod, is employed as the attaching means.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and eflicient device auxiliary to the attachment clip for supporting the ornament in its true positionand preventing the backward bend or misalignment of the 3 ornament relatively to the rod.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated two simple mechanical embodiments of the invention, both embodying the principle of a back strut or brace on the rear side of. the ornament which abuts against the curved portion ofthe elbow end of the rod and, in
cooperation with the attaching clip, main tainsthe ornament in substantial alignment with the main portion of the rod to which it if f is attached, and referring thereto Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the'end portion of the curtain rod showing the ornament applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a erspective detail of the combined clip and race shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan section illustrating a modification wherein thestrut or brace is formed integral with the ornament.

Referring'first toFigs. 1, 2 andlO dos-L ignates a fragment-of t'helintermediate portion ofan ordinary flat sheet metal telescoping curtain rod,-c0ntinuous with which is the:
usual elbow end portion 11 that is-mounted in or. on a bracket 12 designates an entirety "a stamped sheet metal end-ornament that is mounted on the rod portion 10 and'serves to. conceal from front View the elbow end: 11 and its support. ing bracket; The ornament 12is die pressed from thin sheetmetal and includesja 'flat stem or shank portion 12'. To the inner side of the shank 12 is attached. as by a rivet 13, an integrator one-piece clip and brace cut and bent from a sheet metal blank to the form illustrated in Fig. 3, and comprising a Q-shaped clip 14 which straddles the front face and upper and lower edges of the rod section 10, a laterally projecting arm 15 apertured as at 16 to receive the rivet 13, and a rearwardly inclined extension 15 of the arm 15 which bears on the. rounded outer surface of the elbow end 11 of the rod as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The arm extension 15 thus serves. in cooperation with the clip 14 as a'strut or brace to resist rearward deflec- (not shown) attached tothe".
clip 19, shown in detail in Fig. 5. In this case I cast on the rear side of the ornament a brace 0r strut 20, the free end of which bears on the outer rounded surface of'the elbow Us 1. In combination with a curtain rod ornament, means for attaching said ornament to a curtain rod, and a brace laterally offset from said attaching means between the rear surface of the ornament and the rod adapted to bear 5 on the latter.-
2. In combination with a curtain rod ornavment, an. attaching clip secured to said ornament and adapted to embrace a curtain rod, and a brace laterally offset from said attaching' clip between the rear surf-ace of the ornament and the rod adapted to bear on the latter; 3. In combination with a curtain rod orna- -ment an attaching clip secured to said ornament and adapted to embrace a curtain rod, and alaterally extending brace integral with said clip: adapted to bear at its free: end againstthe face of the rod;
4. In combination with a curtain rod ornament, an attaching clip secured tothe inner end portion of said ornament and adapted to embrace 3i curtain rod adjacentIto' an elbow.
