\ IMPROVEMENT IN DRIVERS SEATS FOR HORSE-PCWERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,959, dated May 2, 1876; application filed April 1, 1876.

To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, JEHIAL B. HUTOH I INSON, of Spring Valley, in the county of Fillmore and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in thereof, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the platform folded up;

This invention has relation to improvements in drivers seats for horse-powers; and it consists in a circular platform composed of a number of sectors hinged together upon their radial edges, two or more of which seetors are detachable from the others, whereby a means is provided for removably applying the platform to the center-piece of a horsepower, and for folding the sectors the one upon the other, in compact form, for transportation, as will'be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates my improved platform, which is preferably circular, but may be of the form of a polygon having as many sides as there are sectors of which it is composed. These sectors (designated by the letter a in the drawings) are connected together by means of suitable hinges b, in two sections, B B, the former having, at or near its radial edges, staples c, and the latter, upon its edges or near the same, hasps d, adapted to be passed over the said staples, and to secure the said sections together around the center or pivot of the horse-power, as shown in Fig. 1. If these-hasps be disengagedfrom the staples the two sections may be taken from around the pivot, and their respective sectors folded up the one upon the other, causing them to occupy but little space during transportation.

0 represents strips of metal or wood secured to the under side of sectors a, near their radial edges, and at such a distance therefrom that when they are placed around the center of the power the sweeps will be snuglyreceived between them and hold the platform steady.

D indicates a wooden or metallic stool arranged over a central opening in the. platform, and provided with strongly-constructed legs f, the lower ends of which are received into perforations or sockets formed in sectors a. When thus mounted the legs of the chair -will serve to brace the sectors together near turn rapidly in an opposite direction from the direction of movement of the platform, thus enabling him to incite a sluggish animal in whatever part of the power he may be hitched.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a horse-power, a sectional platform, the parts of which are adapted to .be clamped around the center or pivot bolt of the power, substantially as specified.

2. A drivers' platform for horse-powers, made of sections composed of the sectors a, hinged together upon their radial edges, substantially as set forth.

3. The sectional horse power platform, made up of the sectors a, adapted to fold the one upon the other, substantially as specified.
