' T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES" N. FISHER, of Willis, in the county of Montgomery and State of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Tool-Holders, andI do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the san1e,refer'enee being had to the annexed drawings, makinga part of this Specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

a This invention has relation to improvements in holders, which are designed for holding tools in contact withthe periphery of a grind- I stone; and the nature of theinvention consists in a triangular frame transversely braced at or near the middle-of its length, which I brace is provided witha perforation adapted to receive the end of a metallic hook, upon the screwthreaded end of which is applied a clamping-nut, whereby a means is provided for holding axes,1chisels, and the like when the same are rigidly clamped by the said hook against thebrace by setting up the thumbnut. Italso consists inadetachable plate applied upon the crossbar, and clamped against the same by means of thumb-screws,

h, is designed to be inserted under circumstances and for a" purpose hereinafter ex pose of allowinga flat tool, such as a plane 1 bit, to be held in an inclined position upon the edge of the stone, as shown in Fig. 1., i This tool or any similar flat tool is held rigidly in place'by setting up screws d, thereby clamping it rigidly up against plate 0 by their action upon clamp-plate D. The tapering point- (2, of corner piece 13, is' adapted to be inserted into an upright, shown in Fig. l, rigidly secured in proper position relative to the grindstone upon itsframe, the frame A of the holder extending over and beyond the stone. By this means a vertically vibratory motion may be imparted to the tool for the purpose of giving it the rounding edge common to many varieties of tools.
With a view to adapting .the holder above described tobe used for holding tools with enlarged handles, as chisels, and other like articles, I make use of a strong metallic hook, It, having its screw-threaded end i passedinto the registering perforations above mentioned in' the clampplate D and cross-plate (),v as shown in Fig. 3. designates a thumb nut applied upon the projecting screw-threaded end *6 of hook 71., whereby it is rendered capable of being clamped over the handle of a chisel for the purpose of holding it rigidly against vibration. The handle of a chisel or other like tool is inserted under the hooked end of clamp it between it and plate 0; thumbnut j is then forcibly set up, and the tool secured in position for grinding. Point 0 of corner-piece B being inserted into a suitable perforation in the upright above described, and the stone having been set in motion, the
operator is enabled to rapidly and conveniently manipulate the tool to give it either astraight or a round edge. e
What I claim as new, and desire to secure v by Letters Patent, is-- The tool-holder herein described, consisting of the triangular frame A, provided with the angle-iron B, having the tapering'point'c, the clamp-plates D and G, the plane of the latter being inclined to the plane of the frame, and
the former being provided with the nook'h having a screw-shank, z, and thumb-nut j, substantially as and for the purpose set forth,
