The means which I adopt in this invention f th hut nd'di h d thr h n for effecting the above named objects, namely ing therein 7 i the garnering of all the lime ingredients, and 1 To obvi t the possibility of the material 80* the reduction of the larger pieces to the compacking and piling-up against the surface of mercial limit, whilst rejecting the pebbles and the baffle, the latter is' provided with'asimple other dbris, consists in its essentials of an oscillating mechanism comprising an ecceninclined chute into theupper part of which trio positioned-behind'the baffle andf'within the crude material is gradually and evenly the angular 'space'fornied by the intersecting delivered by an adapted conveyer or other sid s, the eccentric is preferably driven from suitable means. adjacent parts showing the yielding surface of the chute below the roller, being a cross section through the centre of the bearing, and a further cross section in another parallel plane through the bottom of the chute showing the details of the yielding surface of the latter below the crushing roll.
Fig. 4 is a plan of the apex of the baflle member showing the position of the oscillating eccentric.
In these drawings the numeral 5 indicates the sides of the wooden chute, 6 the bottom or effective member, this is secured in connection with suitable framework and inclined at an angle of about 30 degrees de-. pending upon the character of the material to be dealt with. The main driving pulley 7 revolves the roller 8 which is preferably fluted circumferentially so that the shell fragments are broken rather than pulverized. The chute surface immediately below the roller is so constructed as to giveway at any point laterally under a predetermined pressure, and constitutes a salient feature of the To eflect this the surface of the chute at 9 is formed by a series of flat steel bars placed-side by side each bar 10 being hinged on the transverse pin 11 and resting below the roller on a rubber cushion 12 supported by a bearer-13.
sible accumulation of the material on theupper side of the bafiie plate, and is further eifective by deflecting rock fragments and pebbles sidewards of the chute whereby they are evacuated through the aperture 25 in the sides of the chute. I
Having now fully ascertained the nature of my saidinvention, what I claim as mine and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a combined crushing and separating machine having a trough shaped chute in which a transverse .circumferentially fluted roller revolves the combination comprising, a yieldable base that portion of the chute below'and opposite the said roller whereby a specially hard substance may depress one portion of the chute base without depressing adjacent portions, a resilient member supporting the yieldable portion of said base, an oscillating .baflie plate positioned across the base of saidchute and having the form of two converging; curved plates each with a double hinge adjacent the side of the said chute whereby the crushed material emerging from the roller may pass below the bot tom edge of the battle and the larger por-. tions may be deflected to an exit by the cur vature of the said baffle plates.
EDWARD HENRY. RIDER.
Thus when the adjusted pressure suited, v
to fracture the clam shells is exceeded as a pebbleis drawn under the roller the bar or bars immediately below .it .give way by compressing the cushion 12, thereby allowing the pebble to pass along the chute escapingat the space 14 when thecushion at once restores the bar 10 to its original level flush with the wood surface 6, the yielding pivotal bar is showndepressedat 15. The roller is carried by a bearing 16 at each side and fitted with means for regulating the pressure exerted by the spring 17. These may be of any usual form and call for no special comment.
The angular and curved bafile 18 is located at a suitable distance, beyond the roller 8,
this consists of a flat plate normal to the surface of the chute and presenting a pair of curved sloping surfaces to all the descending material discharged from the roller 8.
The lower edge of the bafile 18 does not rest upon the surface of the chute except intermittently at points of support, but is dis tanced therefrom by a narrow aperture suf- .ficient in width to pass the shell fragments rapidity ,of the process by v preventing pos-
