IMPROVEMENT IN BLACK SMITHS FORGlNG-HAMMERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,867, dated May 2,1876; application filed March 6, 1876.
To all whom it may. concern Be it known that l, J OHN' KOPLIN, of Reeds Landing, in the county of Wabasha and Stateof Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Foot-Power Hammer, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of the construction and arrangement of the apparatus whereby a sledge-hammer is worked by a foot-lever and springs, all as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the machine, and Fig. 2 is a top view.
Similar letters of' reference indicate corresponding parts,
A is the'hammer, in which is a short.wooden helve, B, which is bolted between the two metal arms 0, and confined between the two side straps D, which extend a short distance along the helve from the hammer, and are connected, by the strong lugs E and rods F, with the pivot-shaft G, to which the arms 0 are also attached, making a substantial c011- nection, calculated to sustain the shocks of the hammer successfully. The shaft G is mounted in' bearings on the upright supports H, and has an arm, I, to the outer end of which the for different cases.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The hammer A, metal straps D, and helve B, metal bars 0, rods F, and pivotshaft G, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
2. The hammer A, helve B G D, shaft G, I
spring L, arm I, and toot-treadle J, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
