From the foregoing it Will be apparent that when a piece of stock, such as the piece 38 is arranged in the recess 39 that the inner end ot' the stock Will abut one end ot the ejector 40. In this Way the .stock will be held in place against 1nove1nent. It to be understood that the stock will be heated prior to its introduction into the recess 39. As the rolls 18 and 19 rotate, there will come ya time when the dies 24V and 82 Will come to a coacting relationship to apply pressureto the end ot thestock jutting from the recess 39, and as a consequence a bit Will be Y'formed Such bit is designated 49. Due to the-tact that the dies 24 and 32 are tapered longitudinally the bit will also be tapered as shown most clearly in Fig. 6. The surplus metal, if any, will be cut off by the cut-ting edge 36 thereby insuring a clean, straight and sharpedge. The surplus metal findsits Way into the recess 35 and isl thus kept from getting between the rolls. As the rolls 18 and 19 continue to rotate, there comes a time When the projecting end of the ejector 40' is encountered by a portion of the rim or tongue 2Q, and as a consequence the ejector' is moved7 Vand in turnnioves or ejects the completed bit from the recess 39. IVhen pressure on the ejector is relieved, the spring 48 automatically returns the ejector 40 to its normar position in which the lug. 47 engages the nut 46. This expedient increases the output ot the machine.
In the present instance there are two sets of dies 24 and 32 and stock ejecting mechanisms. It to be understood that the pair ot dies and ejecting mechanism in each case Willbe similar. j
4It is also to be understood that used bits ot uniform shape may be arranged in the recess 39 to be acted on by the dies 24 and S2 for the purpose of sharpening the bits.
I claim:
l. In a bit forming machine, a pair 'of oppositely rotatable rolls, one of said rolls having a recess therein for the reception of Astoclr from which a bit is to be formed, coacting dies respectively carried by said rolls for exerting pressure on the stock in the rotation of the rolls to form the bit, and means carried by the stock receiving roll operated by the other roll in the rotation of both rolls for ejecting the stock from the .recess atter the bit has been formed.
In a bit i'orming machine, a pair of oppositely rotatable rolls, one of said rolls having a recess therein for the reception of stock from which al bit. is to 'be formed, coacting dies respectively carried by said rolls for exerting presssure on the stock in the rotation of the rolls to form the bit, and lmeans operated by one roll in the rotation of both rolls for ejecting the stock from the recess after the bit has been formed.

In a bit forming machine, a pair of oppositely rotatable rolls, one ot lsaid rolls having a recess there-inr for the reception of stock from which a bit is to be formed, coacting dies respectively carried by said rolls 'for exerting pressure on the stock in the rotation Yof the rolls to form the bit, and means carried by one roll and operated by the other 'roll in the rotation of both rolls tor ejecting the stock from the recess after the bit hasY been formed.

In a bit forming machine, a pair of oppositely rotatable rolls, one of said rolls having a recess therein for the reception of stock from which a bit is to be formed, coacting dies respectively carried by said rolls for exerting pressure on the stock in therotation of the rolls to form the bit, and adjustable means for ejecting thev stock from the recess after the bit has been formed.
7. In a bit forming machine, a pair of oppositely rotatable rolls, one ot' said rolls having a recess therein for the reception of stock from which a bit is to be formed, coacting dies respectively carried by said rolls for exerting pressure on the stock in the rotation of the rolls to form the bit, and means on the stock roll adapted to abut one end of the stock during the bit forming operation, and said means also being operated by the other roll to eject the stock from the recess after the bit has been formed.

In a bit forming machine, a pair of oppositely rotatable rolls, one of said rolls having a recess therein for the reception of stock from which a bit is to be formed, coacting dies respectively carried by said rolls for exerting pressure on the stock in the rotation of the rolls to form the bit, means Which serves to abut one end or" the stock during the bit forming operation, said means also serving-for ejecting the stock from the recess after the bit has been formed, and means for adjusting the iirst mentioned means for the purpose of ac commodating stock of various lengths for the purposes specified.
9. In a bit forming machine, a movable stock carrier, means on the carrier adapted to abut one end of the stock during the bit forming4 operation, said means also being operable to eject the stock from the carrier after the bit has been formed, and means for adjusting the lirst mentioned means for the purpose of accommodating stock of various lengths.
10. In a bit forming machine, a die roller having a transverse recess therein for the reception of a piece of stock, a member arranged in said recess which in its normal position abuts one end of the piece of stock during the bit forming operation, yieldable means constantly acting on said member to hold the member in a normal position, said member adapt-ed to be acted on to move the same to eject the stock after the bit has been formed.
