This invention relates to teeth for use with excavating equipment such as dragline buckets scoops, clippers," power shovels, power oes and variousvother similar and diverse excavating machines and implements.
One of the objects of the present inven tion is `to provide such an excavating tooth of the type having a removable point and wherein the point is rigidly and secureliy held in proper position and yet may be rea ily and easily removed and` reversed or re-` newed. Y v
Another object is to provide a tooth of 'la this character having improved means for releasably interlocking the point with the body of the tooth.
Other objects and advantages reside in certain featuresl of the lvconstruction, arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawin s forming a part of this specification, an in which:

Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the excavating tooth embodying thel resent invention comprises a bod 1 having attaching portions 2 yand 3 a apted to be riveted or otherwise securely fastened to the bucket, dip er scoop, shovel, or rother im lement on w ich the tooth is used. The body 1 is rovided with an integral forwardly and) downwardly extending -shank 4. A point 5 is provided and has a socket 5o 6 in which the shank 4 is tted. The shank key 10A point intersecting the socket 6 thereof. I In the assembly, these openings 7 and 8 are in substantial registration or substantial alinement. The shank 4 and the socket 6 are of non-circular cross section and are correspondingly formed and tapered so that as the shank 4 'is forced into the socket, the shank and point are rigidl connected and cannot turn relative to eac other.
` For the purpose of forcing the shank into the socket or rather'of forci the point up on the shank to cause the sha to be tightly intertted with the socket, cooperable wedging keys 10 and 11 are provided and are exl tended through the openings 7 and 8, vthe key 10 having a rounded surface engaged with a rounded end wall of the opem f 8 in the point and the key 11 having a sinn ar surface enga ed with a similar end wall of the opening in the shank. The keys 10 and- 11 are oppositely tapered and have correspondingly inclined surfaces 10* and 11?` engaged with each other. f In assembling'the point with the shank of the't'ooth', the point is positioned on-the tooth, that is, the shank 4 is tted in the socket 6 ^of the point.` This brings the openings 71and8 into substantial alinement and permitsof the insertion" of thejkey 10 into lug 12V of the key being v.entered into the ket 13. The metal of the key 11 is suiiiciently bendable to permit the wings 16 and 17 to be bent over laterally from the full line position shown in Figure 4 to the dotted line position shown in the same figure. When the wings 16 and 17 are thus s read they are received in a recess 20 provi ed in the point 5 around each end of the opening 8. Y v
With this construction the point is locked absolutely Vrigid on the shank and .it remains so locked even under the severe usages of actual working conditions. The outer extremity of the point 5 should be shaped as indicated in full lines in Figure 1 but under the wearing action of actual use it gradually wears awayas indicated by the dotted lines. When"thus worn away the tooth must be reversed to present the proper edge at the outer extremity thereof.- This may bevaccomplished by bending the Wings 16 and 17 back to the full line positionY shown in Figure 4 driving `out the wed 11 and removing the wedge 10. The may then be easily forced off of the s ank 4, after which it is reversed and put Vback on the shank. The keys lOand 11 are then replaced although a new key 11 may be used ifthe wings 16 and v17 are in any way damaged. With this construction, the points may be used over and over again and yet are alwa s firmly and securely and rigidly connecte and mounted on the shank of the bod of the tooth.

1. A tooth for use with excavating equipment including a body provided with a shank, a point, said oint and said shank being interfitted an having transverse openings, cooperable wedging eys fitted in said openings, one of said ke s having a laterally extending lug, the s ank having a pocket receiving said lug, and means for releasably locking the other key in position.
2. A tooth for use with excavating equipment including a body providedV with a shank, a point, said int andk said shank being interfitted an having transverse openings, cooperable wedging eys fitted in said openings, means for fixing one of the keys against lengthwise movement through the openings, the other key having one end split to provide bendable securing wings enageable with the point for fastening the ey in position.
3. A tooth for use'with excavating equipment including a body provided with a shank, a point havin a socket in which the shankiissnugly fitte said shank having a transverse opening, said point havin an opening intersecting t e socket thereo and adapted to be alined ith the openin in the shank, cooperable keys exten g through said o enings and engaging the oint and sha respectively, one .of the eys having means cooperable with the shank for holding it against len hwise movement through the openings, an means for releasably locking the other key in position.
4. A tooth for use with excavating equipment including a body provided with a shank, a removable and reversible point having a socket receiving the shank, said point and said shank having openings, cooperable keys tted in the openings and engaging the point and shank res ectively, and means for fixing one of the eys against lengthwise movement through the openings,the other key having one end. split to provide securing wings en ageable with the shank for fastening the eys in position.

A tooth for use with excavating equipment including a body provided with a shank, a removable and reversible point having a socket receiving the shank, said point and said shank having openings, cooperable keys fitted in the openings and engaging the point and shank res ectively, and means for fixing one of the eys against lengthwise movement through the openings, the other key having one end split to provide securing wings engageable with the shank for fastening the .keys in position, the point having recesses receiving the wings in either position of the point.
6. A tooth for use with excavating equipment including a body, a.A pointV associated, with the body, -said body and said point having substantially alined openings, a p`air of cooperable oppositely tapered keys extending through said o keysand said body aving cooperating means for holdin such key against lengthwise movement w ile permitting it to move laterally under` the inuence of the other key, and means for releasably locking the other key in position.
7. 8. A tooth for use with excavating equipment including fa body provided with a shank, a removable point having a socket receiving the shank, said point and said shank having transverse openin s, cooperable wedging keys fitted in sai openings '.ngs, one of saidr and enga ing the point and shank resfectively, a aterally extending lug forme on one of said keys and engaging a part of the tooth fixed against transverse movement to hold its key against lengthwise movement through the openings and means carried by the other key for releasably locking the other key in position.
