Description
Patented June 24, V193() FRAN-K A. HOWARD, or ELIZABETH, NEWlruraissin?,V LAss/rencia imo 'sTANnAEnoaL DEVELOPMEN COMPANY, .A` CGBPO-RATIONQF @EDAWA'RE i* :DWELLING HEATER Yf1 lvsrALriArjIo1r rlhis invention relates to dwelling heater installations utilizing liquid `fuels and comprehends broadly the combination of a burner for liquid fuels, a means for compressing gas operated inconjunction therewith, a reservoir for liquid fuel and an air lift to trans-A fer fuel from said reservoir to a smaller recep tacle from which the burner is directly supplied.
rlhe drawing is a diagrammatic vertical Vcross sectionof a preferred embodiment of air'or any othermaterial gaseous at ordinaryl temperature. "Preferably, burner 2 operates through the atomization of a liquid fuel'by means of a compressed such asair or recycled flue gas; 'the motor and compressor are preferably designed for this purpose and operate'when gas is required for atomization.
lf the motor and `compressor are not re'- quired for this purpose, they may, neverthe- Vlo less, be adapted to operatey simultaneously i with the burner.
A supply of fuel'for the burner is retained in the storage tank 6, vpreferably ,underground," which may be refilled by means of pipe 7 terminating at Vthe ground leveland sealed bythe vented removable plug 8. Thev liquid hydrocarbon fuel flows from '6 through pipe 9 into the sump 10 covered by plate 11'. The storage tank 6A 'and sump 10.V formto#` gether the Asource `of oil supply for there.- Y ceptacle 18 situated at the higher level. .The
The pipe ldischarges'the compressed gas into pipe 12 in sump l() or into such relationshipv theretothat a mixed column of gas and oil is'formed in pipe 12 of lesser hydrostatic i head than the column ,of oil in the sump,` thereby causing a transfer lofoil to the receptacle 18, The' pipe 12 terminates within theV receptacle 18L in the floateoperated'shuto valve 19 whereby the amount y"of oil introduced may be restricted to that necessary to maintain ade'finite levelA in 18. Gas entering `with the "oil maybe vented through the pipe V19V controlled by valve 20. lThe floatv oper-v ated shutoif valve `maybe dispensed with in I which event any excess of oil over that neces- 1 sary to maintain the desired level-in 18 returns through pipe 21 controlled by 'valve 22 communicating with thereservo'ir. The pipe `23 controlled yby'valve 24 connectswith the receptacle 18 at or nearthe lower part therej of and conducts liquid fuely byV gravity to the burner control mechanismv 3 by which it is supplied tothe burner 2.
ItV will be understood .thatthe equipmentv shownis `in Villustratitm and, not` in limitation and, that variousalterna-tives maybe adopti' ed within the' scope of the' appended claims" `in which it is myV intention t'oclaim broadl all novelty inherent in the invention. Y
