Description

June 24, 1930. G. ROBBERTS ADVERTISING APPARATUS Filed May 9, 1929 Patented June 24, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LOYAL GRANT ROBBERTS, OF SANTA MONICA, CALIFOR NIA ADVERTISING APPARATUS 7 Application filed. May 9, 1929; sen-a1 No. 361,712.
This invention relates to advertising apparatus and more especially to apparatus of the type including an endless traveling curtain of panels bearing advertisements.
An object of this invention is to provide a novel and effective display curtain and drive means therefor whereby to facilitate the change of length of the curtain and to tion will be made manifest in the ensuing description of the herewith illustrative embodiment; it being understood that modifications, variations and adaptations may be resorted to within the scope, principle and spirit of the invention as it is hereinafter claimed.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the apparatus.

Figure 3 is a horizontal cross-section.
Figure 4 is a detail of sectional curtain structure.
The apparatus includes a suitable housing or cabinet 2 presenting an open front for display of the effective advertising device which passes in plane presentation to the eye.
At each side of the cabinet is an angularly arranged mirror 3 serving not only to refleet images of passersby but also reflecting light from shells 4 which extend along the outer edges of the mirrors and partly eonceal lighting means 5. v
An additional attractive feature is a clock 6 arranged on top of the cabinet.
The display media consists of an endless curtain 10 which preferably is built up of individual advertising sections or panels 10 which are joined edge to edge by any desired form of fasteners 11.
This endlesscurtain is guided over a number-.of top rollers 12 and bight rollers'13 according to the capacity of the cabinet and length of. the curtain.
One of the rollers, as 13 is a free-floating ,meansrto keepthe curtain under desired tension. 1
Means are provided to effect the desired feed or advance of the curtain sothat its whole display area will appear in a cycle at the front of the case. The feed means includes an endless belt 15 running around a front foot roller 16 and thence up to the front top roller 12 then down to a floating tensioning roller 17 operative either by its own weight or other means, as a spring 18 to draw the belt taut onto a drivingdrum 19 about which a bight of the belt passes;
The drum is driven byany desired form of transmission 20 from motor 21 The advertising curtainlO and the belt .15 run, the former on the latter, up or down fromthe front rollers 12-16 smooth and flat at the front window of the cabinet and the curtain bends downoverthe back of the vfront roller .12 and runs off ,therear bight of the belt at the back of drum 19 so that there is ample area of contact between the drive belt and the curtain to insure the progressive shift of the curtain to secure display a of the advertisements thereon.
It will be seen that it is not necessary to alter the position or thelength of the drive belt when any changes are made in the display curtain.

3. In an advertising apparatus, an endless display curtain, a system of top and bottom guide rollers and other bight rollers for-the curtain,.an endless, driven belt running directly on the said front rollers and thereon being overlapped by bends of the curtain for cooperative driving relation, and independent means for tensioning the belt and the curtain and whereby the latter is drawn snug to the former at all times.
4. In an advertising apparatus, an endless display curtain, a system of top and bottomguide rollers and other bight rollers for the curtain, an endless, driven belt directly on the said front rollers and thereon being overlapped by bight bends of the curtain for effective cooperative driving relation, independent means for tensioning the belt and the curtain, and a'drive drumabout which the belt has a bight from one of the guide rollers; said curtain lapping on the drive drum bight of the belt.
5. In an advertising apparatus, a belt device, spaced front rollers, a tensioning roller 7 and a driving roller, said belt having a bight aboutthe front rollers and the tensioning roller and a bight to the drive roller, and a display curtain lapping the front bight and the drive bight of the belt, and bight rollers for the curtain.
6. In an advertising apparatus, a belt clevice, spaced front rollers, a tensioning roller and a driving roller, said belt having a bight about the front rollers and a bight about the tensioning roller and a bight to the drive roller, and a display curtain lapping the front bight and the drive bight of the belt, length-forming bight rollers for the curtain, and bight means to tension the curtain on its driving belt.
