This invention pertains to plowing or furrowing devices, and more particularly to that type of devices to be used `in subsoiling.
On plantations or farms of various kinds,
` it is often desirable or necessary to subsoil during the growth of various crops. For instance, on sugar and pineapple plantations, it is very necessary that'subsoiling be ef'-y fected between the various rows of the crop at different periods of 'their growth. -Heretofore it has been necessary toy employ a single subsoiler drawn by mules and worked by two men, for performing this operation,
which of course, it will be appreciated, is
more or less ineffective vas well as costly as not`only is it slow vbut a single subsoiling operation is not effective as a sufficient depth is oftentimes not reached. With the f machines in use, subsoiling points are attached to the machine and the machine is pulled reither by tractor power or by mules, which is also unsatisfactory such a machine itself cannot be heavy enough for' the points to penetrate a suflic'ient distance,

With these and various'other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and voperation as charactersare used to designate like partswill more fully described and particularly pointed out in the specification, drawings` and claims appended hereto.

Tractor 10 is provided on either side thereof with a frame 11 to which may be attached at any convenient point a bracket assembly 12.- Said assembly consists essen- 30 tially of a pair of bracket plates 13 and 14 provided with'adjustable pin holes 15, said .bracket being braced to the tractor by means of fore and aftbraces 16 and transverse' braces 17. An arm 18 is pivoted 35 to the bracket assembly by means of the bolts 19 disposed in any of the selected pm holes 15. r'lfhe other end ofthe arm 18 is bracketed or secured by means of the connecting plates or brackets 20 and 21 to the 90 upper and lower subsoiling arms 22 and 23 which may conveniently be in the form of yokes. Said yokes' are secured together at their central portions and embrace opposite sides of the arm' 18. The arms are pro- 95 vided with bolt holes 25 adapted to'provide adjustable securing means for the subsoiling points 26 fastenedto'said yokes by means of clamps 27 and bolts 28.
In lthe present disclosure the subsoiling v i' arms 22 and 23 are constructed in the form of a' yoke for the purpose 'of arching the central portions thereof upwardly out of the path of the growing crops. Between one end of the drum 37 and the jack shaft, there is disposed any suitable clutch means 38 for the purpose of selectively .establishing connection between said shaft and said drum. A'pawl Iand ratchet 39 and 40 are provided at the other :end` of said drum normally in engagement .for preventing the' drum from revolving. The pawl is operated by means of a releasepedal 41 convenientlg 'disposed with respect to the drivers seat` said pedal being pivoted to the tractor at43 and,connected to the pawl by means of a link 44. A clutch lever 45 pivotedvto. the frame at anchor plate 46 is provided with a thrust collar 47 preferably encircling the jack shaft and adapted to move the clutch elements through engagementwith a proper clutch collar (not numbered), said lever bem connected/to a clutch lever handle 48 `sultably pivoted at 49 for operation'from the drivers seat 42, said lever 48 being connected tothe clutch lever by means of the. link 5,0.
