The invention relates to cleaners and has for its object to provide a boiler cleaner for cleaning boiler tubes and other parts of a boiler.

In the drawings reference character 10 indicates a fitting comprising part of a boiler cleaner unit, this fitting being ordinarily designated as a blower head and being pro* vided with a fla-nge 11 for fixedly locating the unit against the outer wall A of the boiler setting 12. The blower pipe or cleaner element 13 is connected to the blower head 10 through the wall box or extension 14 and corrugated connection 15 located in a recess 16 of the boiler setting. In accordance with the usual practice, the element 13 is arranged transversely of the boiler tubes 13EL and is provided with the nozzles 13lo for discharging cleaning fluid adjacent these tubes. One end of the connection 15 is secured to the extension 14 and the other end is provided with a sleeve 17 having a recess 18 for rotatably engaging a projection 19 of the cleaner element 13 to prevent the escape of fluid at this point as the cleaner element is rotated. Set screw 17a fixes sleeve 17 to connection 15, which in turn is fixed to extension 14 by set screw 15a. The connection 15 between extension 14 of the head 10 and the cleaner element is formed of corrugated metal or other material for affording flexibility between these parts permitting universal relative movement. The recess 16 while shown formed in the interior wall B of the boiler setting may also be located entirely within the boiler setting, either location preventing con` densation and leakage from escaping into the cleaning fluid inlet 2O or dripping down outside the boiler on the operator as would hap- OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF pen if the flexible connection was outside the l` i' boiler setting.
Rotation of the cleaner element 13 is accomplished by a rotatable chain sheave 21 mounted on the forward end of shaft 22 having a thrust bearing 25 and the universal joint 23 in its length. The rear end of shaft 22 is connected with the cleaner element 13 through the spider 24 as shown in Figure 2.
It will be noted that the inlet pipe 20 is made integrally with the wall box 14.
I desire to have it understood that the flexible joints as described herein, whether inside the boiler setting or outside, may be used in combination with other types of blower heads than those illustrated. For example such joints could readily be used with the types of blower heads in which an inlet valve is actuated when the blower pipe is rotated as illustrated in the Bowers No. 1,465,387.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The combination with a boiler, of a boiler cleaner comprising a blower head, a flexible extension fitted to said head an-d mounted in the wall of the boiler setting, a blower element mounted to rotate in said flexible extension, actuating means for said element mounted on said head, and means flexibly connecting said actuating means to said blower element. c

the boiler and provided with nozzles for the discharge of cleaning fluid adjacent the said tubes, a ilexible member forming a connection between the cleaner element and blower head to permit movement of the cleaner element transversely of the blower head, operating patentv to means for said cleaner element mounted exteriorly of the boiler wall, and a flexible connection between said operating means and said cleaner element.
3. In a boiler cleaner, a blower head having a llexible extension, a blower element journaled in said extension, a rotatable shaft journaled n said head, and a flexible connection between said shaft and said blower element.
