Description

June 17,1930. J. P. HABERLE EXTENSION FOR FLY SWATTERS Filed May 10, 1929 I 4 411 ll ll (fill/Ill I// l/l A III 1 11771 III ciahryflfiaberle ATTORNEY Patented June 17, 1930' V.
UNITED STATES EXTENSION FOR FLY SWATTERS Application filed May 10,
The object of this invention is the provision of simple means desi ed to have removably attached to a swinga 1e element thereon a fly swatter which, upon vertical movement of the rod or handle member of the device will be forcibly swung, so that when the end of the device is arranged against a ceiling flies resting upon such ceiling will be killed in an easy and convenient manner.
To the attainment of the foregoing the improvement consists in the construction, combination and operative association of parts, one satisfactory embodiment of which is disclosed by the accompanying drawings;
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement. i I
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view approximately on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 33 of Figure 2; f
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the memher which is attached to the rod.
Figure 5 is a similar view of the member 25 which is slidably associatedwith the member illustrated by Figure 4; i
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the rocker arm illustrating the manner in which the handle of a fly swatter is removably clamped 30 thereon.
In carrying out my invention I make use of a light rod 1 of a determined length. 7 The rod is substantially rectangular in cross section and adjacent to its outer end has fixed thereon a cross sectional V-shaped metal plate member 2. The plate member 2 projects a suitable distance beyond the end of the rod, and the said plate member 2 has its edges formed with outwardly directed flanges 3.
on the rod 1 are received in guides formed on the flanged and bent edges of a second V-' shaped member 5. The member 5 has its outer end formed with a flat head 6i.
Both the members 2 and- 5 are provided with openings 7 and 8, respectively, and through these openings there is passed one end of a rocker arm 9. The rocker arm is formed with an inner lug 10 and with an 0 outer lug 11. These lugsmay be removably The flanges 3 of the member 2 that are fixed 1929. Serial No. 361,963.
secured on the rocker arm 9 and are designed to prevent the rocker arm from passing 1on gitudinally through the- openings 7 and 8.
- On its outer end the rocker arm 9 has fixed thereto a'metal socket 12' designed to receive therein the handle 13 of a fly swatter 14. A binding element 15 holds the handle 13 in the socket, and the combined weight of the arm and the fly swatter will cant the rocker arm downwardly and thereby project the headed member 5 a considerable distance outwardly from the member 2. Thus when the head 6 is arranged against the ceiling in a room and the fly swatter is positioned below a fly to be killed, an upward push on the rod i 1 will swing the rocker arm in an upward direction, causing the swatter 14 to be brought violently against the insect and destroy the same. lVith a simple construction as above described it will be noted that the flies or other insects lighting upon the ceiling of the room may be exterminated in an easy and convenient manner and further that the simplicity of my construction and the advantages there- 7 of will be understood andappreciated.
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A rod having an extension, a headed member guided on said extension, both the extension and the body of the head member being provided with openings, a rocker arm received through the openings anddesigned to have the handle of a fly swatter removably attached thereto and whereby the combined weight of the rocker arm and the fly swatter will normally swing the rocker arm down wardly and project the headed member a distance outwardly from the rod, for the purpose set 'forth.
2. A-device for the purpose set forth, a rod, a substantially V-shaped member fixed to the rod and 'extending beyond one end thereof, a second substantially V-shaped member having a headed end,-guide means integrally formed between both of the V-' shaped members and both of said V-shaped ,members having an opening therethrough, a
rocker arm received through the openings, means on the rocker arm for holding the same from passage through the openings, a socket on the outer end of the rocker arm to receive I the handle of a fly swatter therein, means for binding the handle in the socket, the combined Weight of the fly sWatter and rocker arm designed to swing the rocker arm doWn- I wardly With respect to the rod When the latter is in vertical position and to move the slidable V-shaped member outwardly therefrom.
rod, an angle plate member'secured'to the rod and extending beyond one end thereof, a member guided for slidable movement on the plate member, a rocker arm passing through the plate member and through the slidable member, lugs on the rocker arm to contact With the outer faces of the plate and slidable member and said rocker arm carrying a fly swatter Whose Weight cants the said rocker arm to cause the slidable member to move a predetermined distance outward on the plate, for the purpose set forth;
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. JOHN P. HABER-LE.
3. In a device for the purpose set forth, a I i
