The primary object of this invention is to provide an aquatic device or appliance comprising a seat and a non-sinkable or buoyant element adapted to maintain the seat when occupied in a proper position uponthe surace of water. and to enable the seatto easily ride waves.
The device, it is considered, will afford great pleasure and amusement when used at athing places, and owing to its buoyancy and wave lldll'lg capabilities will be per ectly safe for children, who may thus enjoy the benefits of bathing andsea air without risks or the need for constant attention.

Figure 8 is a fragmentary section showing means for securing the seat to the buoyant element.
In a preferred form of the invention, the buoyant element 2, consists of a ring prefer ably of rubber tubing and inflatable. A discarded pneumatic tyre tube may be used with advantage, and, if necessary, vcare should be taken to ensure that any punctures or excessively weakened portions are suitably repaired or strengthened. In use, such tube 1s inflated to a suitable pressure through the usual or a suitable valve 3.
The buoyant element or inflatable tube preferably surrounds and is suitably retained to a seat or support 4, upon which a child may sit. The retaining means for the seat may comprise a number of straps 6 which may be looped so as to encircle the buoyant element 2 at desired circumferential positlons, and 50 may be suitably attached at their ends to the 313,003, and in Austra llajanuary 14, was.

If desired, each strap 6 ma com rise two sections (Figure 8) secured by nai s or the like 7 at their inner ends in the upper and lower surfaces of the seat, and provided at their outer or free ends respectively witha tongue or tapered portion 8 and a buckle 9 whereby the strap sections may be readily interconnected to securely but detachably retain the buoyant element to the seat. Alternatively each strap 6 may have a buckle at one end and a tongue or tapered portion at the other end, the intermediate portion of the stra being passed through an eyelet 10, a num er of which may be positioned around the seat as shown in Figures 4 and 6.
The seat 4 may be composed of wood or any other suitable material or materials, and may have upstanding sides 11 and a back 12 conveniently shaped-and formed as shown in Figures 1 to 3 to ensure comfort and to assist in preventing the occupant from falling out. The seat may also be provided with a pair of holes 13 suitably shaped and located so as to enable a child to pass his or her legs there- .through and into the water beneath the seat.
If desired, a strap 14 may be provided to extend transversely across the seat between suitable retainers 16 in order to retain a child in pro er position thereon despite any rising and fa ling or tilting of the seat when in use.
According to the embodiment shownv in Figures 4 to 6 the seat may have a relatively narrow intermediate portion or waist 4' and enlarged end portions 4", the side edges 4 of the seat being suitably child may sit comfortably straddled upon the seat with his or her legs accommodated between the sides of the seat and the adjacent portions of the buoyant element. The end portions 4 may be curved to enable the seat to more readily fit within the buoyant element.
A curved backrest 16 and a front wall 17 may also upstand from the seat. The front wall may have a pair of hand grips 18 which ma either be of a detachable nature as shown in igures 4 and 6, or they may be formed curved, whereby a integral with the front wall 17 as shown in Fifiu'e 7.
eans may also be provided to support a sunshade above the occupant of the seat and such sup orting means ma comprise a vertical soc et member 19 a apted to receive the handle 21 of a sunshade 22, a set screw 23 being provided if desired to securely grip the handle of said socket. The socket member may have a leg or stem 24 fitting at its lower end into a hole 26 in the seat, while a clip or strap 27 may be attached to the back rest to maintain the socket member in an upri ht position.

The seat ma be provided with holes 29 or other means or connecting a tow rope or ropes 31 thereto whereby the device may be pulled over the water.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device for the purpose indicated, comprising a rigid seat provided with one or more apertures through which the legs of an occupant ma pass, and an inflatable member detachab y retained to said seat so as to encompass same and to maintain the seat upon the surface of the water.
2. A device for the purpose indicated, comprising a seat, and a buoyant member retained to and surrounding said seat, the latter being reduced in width intermediately of its length so as to provide enlarged leg spaces .between opposlte sides of the seat and adjacent portlons of the buoyant member, so that a child may sit straddled on the seat with his or her legs passing through said spaces. A device for the purpose indicated comprising an endless inflatable tube, a seat adapted to fit within said tube 'when the latter is inflated,'said seat having a reduced waist portion so that a child may sit straddled thereon with his or her legs depending between the sides of the waist portion and the adjacent portions of said tube, and means for detachably connecting said tube to said seat.
4:. A device for the purpose indicated, comprisin a seat having an upstanding front provi ed with a handle or handles, an inflatable member, and means for de'tachably connecting said inflatable member to and around said seat.
