are in contact therewith The pillow can be moved back and forth so that the entire surface encounters the rapidly revolving brushes. The brushes remove the particles of dust and the like from the surface of the pillows which particles are taken up by the current of air flowing frgm branches 9 and 10 and are delivered in the direction of the arrows and are carried through the opening 4 into the hood 18'and conduit 17 by the air flowing to the'suction side of the blower 16.
V 15 and thence to the dust bag in the dust house. The dust bag acts asa screen or filter removing the particles of dust from the air as it flows through the dust bag. 7 The cleaned air then delivers from the dust 'house through the conduits 12 and 11 and then is delivered through the branches '9 and 10 tothebrushes as before. p
The air continuously circulating as described takes up the particles removed from the pillows by the 'brushesand carries them to the dust bag where the air is purged. The rapidly moving air also tends to remove some of the particles'from the pillows in conjunction with the beating and-scouring action of the brushes. One of the important features of this form of. the construction is the fact that the air is guided around the revolving brushes and travels in the same direction as the periphery of the revolving Asa result of this arrangement the dus't is rapidly and. efiiciently removed from the pillows and taken'to the dust house without permitting any of it to escape into the surrounding atmosphere.
' r-In the form shown in Figs. and 4 the platform supported by the legs 2 and in turn supporting the hood 3 are the same as in the previousconstruction. Each side wall of the hood 3 is provided with openings as shown 'a't'20 and 21. Theopening 20 is connected b the conduit 22 to the suction side of the b ower 2'3. The delivery side of the blower is connected through the conduit 24 which delivers into" a dust bag (not shown but similar to bag 14 Fig. 1) ,within the -dust house 25. The purged air after passin through the dust bag is deliveredthrough conduit flfi itotheopening 21. ,In
this form of construction the current of air travels transversely of the hood 3 and the object to be cleaned such as the mattress is placed on platform 1. The dust is loosened and removed from the mattress by beating it and is taken up by the transverse current of air which carries it to the dust bag 30. The cleaned air is then carried through conduit 26 to hood 3 where it may again. become dust laden. In this form of device it has also been found that the object can be cleaned without the escape of dust into the surrounding atmosphere.
I am well aware that numerous changes in the details of construction and relativeassociation of parts will. readily occur" to those skilled in the art without departing from the principles of this invention and I do not therefore desire to be limited to the constructions shown for purposes of illustration, but rather to the scope of my;invention as it is defined in the appended claims.
Having now disclosed the principles of my invention, what I seek to' secure by United StatesLett'ers Patent is:-
1. In a device of .the type described, the combination of a platform having an opening therein, a brush in registry with said opening, a hood over-said platform having a discharge opening,- a conduit systemcon- 'nected to the platform opening, and to the hood discharge opening, means for creating a continuous current 'ofair in said system, and means for removing dust from the air leaving said discharge opening. l
2. In a device of the type described, the
combination with a platform, an open ended hood support on said platform having an aperture in one wall thereof and means on said platform for loosening and removing.
the dust from the article to be cleaned of a circulatorysystem opening at one end into the aperture in the hood and opening at the other end adjacent .said means, means in said system for'creating a current of air and means also in said system for removing the dust from the current of air.
3. In a device of the type described, means for supporting an object to be cleaned, means for removingdust, therefrom, means 'for creating a continuous current of air in the form of asubstantially closed circuit,
meansfor' guiding said current past said removing means to'carry the dust in a substantially confined path, and means in the path of said current for collecting the dust without interfering with the substantial continuity of saidfcurrent. a
4. In a cleaning machinethe combination with a platform, an open'ended hood supported on said platform and a plurality of revolving brushes sup-ported below said platform and projecting therethrough of a conduit system opening at one end into said hoodand opening atlthe other end through the openingsin said platform, means in said f conduit system for creating a current of air' "I and m'eans in said system for ,air of dust and the like.
purging the 55111 a cleaning machine the combination With a chamber and brush meansextending through said supporting means and into said chamber having means for supporting an object .to be cleaned for removing the dust from the objects'of means connected to said chamber comprising a conduit systern-for removing the dust from sald chamber, means insaid conduit system for creating a current of air therein, means for purging the an, of dust and means vfor returning the s purged air to said chamber.
6. In a cleaning machine the combination with anopen ended chamber ofmeans for supporting an object'to be cleaned, means for removing dusttherefrom consisting in .a plurality of revolving brushes extending through said supporting'means, of a conduit system connected at one end to said chamber, a blower 1n said conduit system, means 1n said conduit system for removlng v I dust from the air therein and means for I guiding the cleaned air substantially periph-' erally around said revolving brushes.
7 In a cleaning machine the combination of means for supporting an object to be such objects, extending dust laden air to a limited path,{means for 7 moving air through the guiding means and v 1 means for removing the dust from the mov- Ting air. 1 v a In testimony whereof I have hereunto set Y my hand on this ion; day 0f ;A 1 -i1, A.;D.,, HUGO R. sWANsonf
