This invention relates to motion picture projection apparatus, and more particularly to a pedestal lever which is adapted to pivotally support the projection head and the lamp house' wherebyvthe angle of projection may be varied in accordance with operating requirements.
The invention provides a pedestal lever having an enlarged base for supporting the projection head and having a downwardly extending iiange of rigid construction for pivotally engaging the lamp house support whereby the lamp house may be moved radially thereabout, while the'line of projection is parallel In all positions of said lamp house.
`The lever is provided with a plurality `of sets of horizontally displaced bearings for carrying lboth the lamphouse support and a guidingarm therefor. Means are alsoprovided for pivotallysupporting thelever from the pedestal top in such manner that the line of greatest stress passes through the approximate center of the pivotal bearing.`
The invention also consists in certain new and original features of. construction and combinations of parts hereinafter setforth and claimed. Referring tothe drawings more in detail, the pedestal lever isshown as comprising a body kportion 10 having an elongated openlng 11 therein for receiving a pedestal arm 12 (-Figlt) ,j andsuitably drilled to receive bolt 13 by means .of which it is pivotally held in pedestal `place between pedestal' arms l2 and v14. of

The pedestal lever is provided at its forward end with a support 20 for the projection head, said support having a plurality of raised surfaces 21 on which the projection head is adapted to rest. Head support 20 is further drilled for receiving clamping screws which are associated with 'said projection head. Film slot 22 is-located in head 2O to provide space for passagev ofthe motion picture film.

The bolt may consequently be considered to have two bearing portions, namely, the main bearing surface between arms 12 and 14 which serves to support the greatest port-ion of the weight of the attached apparatus and an auxiliary bearing surface located externally of said arms which serves to strengthen the apparatus and reduces the tendency of the machine to vibrate. The auxiliary bearing surface also assists in supporting the portion of the projection head which islocated adjacent the film slot and in supporting the lever 36 in a lmanner which will be hereinafter described.
The main support for the lamp house is locatedmidway between arms 12 and 14 in the plane of the 'center of stress of the projection head. The main weighty of j the machine is consequently located centrally of the pedestal.
The rear portion of lever 10 includes a downwardly extending flange 23 having a strengthening web k24 and provided with outwardly extending bearing members 25 which are adapted to receive pin 26. Any suitable means may be employed for rigidly securing said pin in bearing members 25, such as screws 27, which are passed through said bearing members into engagement with `pin 26.
The upper portion of flange 23 is extended transverselyand provided' with a pair of outwardly extending Y adapted to receive pin 29. This pin may be secured in said bearings aszby set screws 30 (Fig. 2). Lateral strengthening webs 31 extend between bearings 25 and 28 for imparting rigidity to the assembly.
vLamp house support32 is provided with tubular.bearing members 33 which are pivotally engaged by pin 26v and supported thereby. A lamp house base 34 may be pivotally secured to lamp house support' 32 as by pin 35. A guiding arm 36 is provided at one end with a tubular bearing member 37 in engagement with pin 29, and is adapted to be pivotally connected at its other end to lamp house base 34 as by pin38. l
In the pedestal lever above described, the lamp house is mainly carried by support 32 which is pivotally secured to pinv 26, and guiding arm 36 is soconnected to the lamp house base as tovmaintain thelsame in pal*- allelism as it is pivotally moved about pin 26. The plurality of bearing members 25, however, serveto firmly support theV lamp house while permitting the above mentioned pivotalmovement. The rigidity ofthe entire arrangement is increased by strengtheningwebs 24 and 31 and by the specific location of the lever with respect to pedestal arms 12 and 14. By extending the support forzthe .projection head laterally a sufficient bearings 28 which are I distance to contact with the entire lower surface of the head and by causing the center of stress to extend in a line between arms 12 and 14, the tendency of the apparatus to vibrate is reduced to a minimum.
The particular form of rojection head and lamp house employed orm no part of the present invention, and consequently have beenV omitted for sakeY of clearness. It is understood, however, that any well known type may be employed to advantage with the supporting members above described.
While certain novel features of the invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various. omissions, substitutions and changes in the forms andv details of the device illustrated and in its operation may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is: A
1. In a motion picture proj ectingv machine, a supporting pedestal having a pair of arms, a pedestal lever having an elongated slot, means for pivotally mountingl said lever on said pedestal whereby one of said arms extends into said slot, and theother of said arms extends externallyof said lever, a projection head support carried vby the front of' said lever, and a downwardly extending flange; formed at the rear thereof having `means .associated therewith for pivotally mounting the lamp house support thereon.
2. In a pedestal lever for a motion picture projecting apparatus, means for pivotally mounting said lever on a supporting pedestal, a v projection head v support carried lby said lever, and means for supporting a lamp house therefrom lcomprising a downwardly extending flange having a plurality of vertically aligned bearings, a second set of vertically aligned bearings laterally displaced with respect to said first mentioned set, and
means associated with each ofsaid bearings fork pivotally supporting a lamp house.
3. In combination with a pedestal 'for a motion picture projecting apparatus, a pedestal lever, vertically aligned bearings carfried by said lever` for pivotally mounting a lamp house support, means for pivotally mounting said lever to said pedestal, the plane of said vertically aligned bearing extending longitudinally of said lever substantially through the center of Ysaid pivotal mounting means, a second setl of bearings carried by said lever and located ina longitudinal plane extending outsidelof said pivotal bearing. In; combination with a, pedestal; for a' motion picture projection apparatus, alpedestallever offa width greater than the Atop e of said pedestal, means for pivotally mountingV said lever thereon comprising arms V asrsociated with said pedestal, one of said arms 130 extending against the outer surface of said lever, the other of said arms being received in an interior opening thereon, and a, pivot bolt passing through said arms and across the entire lever.
5. I ver, means for mounting said lever on a supporting pedestal, a projection head support carried by said lever, a lamphouse support having a downwardly extending bracing member, said lever having a flange extending downwardly substantially coextensive with said bracing member and provided with a plurality of vertically aligned bearings, one of said bearings being located at substantially the lower extremlty of said bracing member, and means for pivotally mounting said lamphouse support on said bearings.
