DRY CLOSET Filed June 11, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented June 17, 1930 UNITE STTES ti ans CLYDE 'r. CAIDWALLADER, or BUFFALO, New YORK DRY CLOSET Application filed June 11,
This invention relates to dry closets, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind which is highly sanitary and which is particularly adapted for use in rural districts or other places where there is no water under pressure.
Another object of the invention is to provide a closet of this kind which can be conveniently used inside of and on the upper floor or floors of a building and wherein means are provided for the convenient and ready carrying out from the building of excrement and other refuse collected within the box of the closet.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved dry closet whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in vertical section and partly in elevation illustrating a dry closet constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in top plan of the closet proper as illustrated in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an elevational view of the paper reel and supporting frame therefor as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a slab, preferably of metal and of desired configuration and dimensions, provided with'an opening 2 affording communication with a box 3 suitably fastened from below to the under surface of the slab 1. Arranged upon the upper surface of the slab 1 and in proper position with respect to the opening 2 is a seat ring 4 of a conventional type.
The slab 1 is maintained at a desired height through the instrumentality of the 1929. Serial No.,3'70,007.1
excess of the Width of the slab 1, or more particularly the internal width-of the box 3.
The top member 7 of the frame F has hingedly connected therewith, as at 8,the
indicated at 12, to provide a straight bar 14 which is pivotally held to the rear portion of the slab 1 by the clips 15 or the like whereby the ring member 11 may be raised orlowered as required.
The portion of the slab l rearwardly of the opening 2 and in advance of the bar 1 1 is provided with an elongated spring pressed clamping plate 16.
In practice, a strip of paper of desired length is severed from the roll R and one end portion of said strip is held to the rear poring 2 whereupon the ring member -11 is lowered. The paper strip or sheet is then" pushed downwardly into the box '3 through v the opening 2 until it touches the bottom of the box 3 and thereby providing both a container and a seat cover. Upon removal, the ring member 11 is raised and the clamping plate 16 freed from the paper strip or sheet whereupon the corners of the strip or sheet tion of the slab 1 by the clamping plate 16.
1th the ring member 11 raised the paper A stripior sheetisthen disposed over. the open 5 are twisted one about the other-as far as practical resulting in a tlght package.

V v The package hereinbeforereferred to after being taken from the box 3 is passed out through the opening 17 intothe upper portion of the carry-off pipe and discharged within'th'e portable receptacle '19, This reoe'ptacle 19 can be readily, and'conven'iently moved and dumped as-desiredl From the foregoing description it is j thought to be obvious that a dry closet constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated; and it will also be obvious that my inventionis susceptijble of 'some'change and modification' without i departing fromthe principles and spirit Y thereof andfor thisjreas'on'I do not wish 'to'beunderstood as limiting myself to the precisearrajngement and formation of the 7 several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereim after c'laimfedQ I ola'im:' 7 V r 1.
