The member 15 also has the following description made in connecprojecting from one .side thereof, spaced tion with the accompanying drawings in lugs 15g between which lugs is pivoted a which like characters refer to the different member 16 by means of the pivot 1.6c shown parts throughout the different views, and as riveted in place. The member 16 is formed 95 in which, as a jaw at its outer end, which end alrnes Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device showlaterally with the jaw portions 15a, which jaw ing a connecting rod and reamer in connec-v has a surface 16a which, when in clamping tion therewith, together with a vise in which position, extends at an angle slightly less o the connecting rod is held; than a right angle to the surface 15", as [..31'1
shown in Fig. 2. The member 16 has pivoted thereto, intermediate its ends, a small U-shaped yoke member 17 having secured in the bight portion thereof, one end of a screw 18, which jaw extends toward the member 15 and extends through an aperture 15h in the web of member 15. The free end of the jaw is engaged in a threaded bore in the end of a clamping member 19 illustrated as a cylindrical rod having a handle rod 19a extending at right angles therethrough adjacent its outer end. A plate 20 is provided illustrated as having flat surfaces and being of substantially uniform thickness, which plate 'has a slot 2()a extending longitudinally from one end :and :terminating in :a circular enlargement 20D. Saidplate has an offset circular portion 4at. one vend having a circular aperture 2OC lex- -tending therethrough. A pair Vof headed screws 21 extend through the plate 20 and the slot 20a and are threaded into the lugs 1.58, washers 22 .being disposed beneath the heads of screws 21. A compression spring 23 is disposed lbetween the members 15 and 16 between lugs 15g and yoke 17,'th1eends ofwhich embrace small pinsy or `projections 16b and 15i, respectively., which project from members 15 and 16, respectively, :these pins or projectionsacting to hold said sprin in place. A centering member or cone 211 is provided which, as shown :in Figs. 3 and 7, comprises a -member having oppositely tending frusto-conical end portions having therebetween, a cylindrical portion 211a of enlarged diameter' having its periphery knnrled. rThe member 211 is divided .along a fdiametral iplane `and hinged :at onef'side softhat it may be readily opened and closed. An adjustable reamerr25 .is shown, 7and while any adjustable reamer may :be used, in the embodiment of Ithe invention illustrated, a
Yreainer .is `shown having a threaded cylindrical lend 'portion251 and an intermediate portion having longitudinally extending grooves T25b therein. The grooves 251D are adapted to receive reamer blades 25C :and these blades may be moved longitudinally` to increase or decrease `the diameter of circle engaging their outer surfaces by being moved longitudinally in fthegrooyes 25b by the collars 25d `which receive the `ends vof said 'blades and are moved'longitudinally by the rnuts 25e. The :bottoms of the grooves 25b are Yinclined Lto the `axis of vthe reainer so fthat the sblades'are cainmed outwardly by said grooves, 'it being understood that the reainer 'is'also threaded throughout the poi'- tion occupied 'by the grooves .2511.
When `the bore of fthe connecting rod hub is ito 'be resumed, `the connecting rod will be placed 'in Vand clamped in some holding means, :such as the jaws l'l'and 12 of a vise, as illustrated. The tool of thek present invention will then be engaged with and clamped on the connecting rod, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It will be seen that, owing to this position of the jaw surfaces 15 and 16, the connecting rod 10 will be clamped surface 15b. The connecting rod is thus held with the axis of the hub 10'JL and the bore therein substantially parallel with the longitudinal central axis of the member 15; The reamer .25 is now placed in position, as shown in Fig. 7, with the blades 25c substantially longitudinally centered .in the -hub 10, said blades being adjusted so that the reanier fits snugly in the ibore of h-iib 10a.
he reamer, at lthis time, extends through the aperture 20c Ain .plate 20. The centering cone or shell 211 is now closed about .threaded vend of the reamer25 at .theloiIt-'er side of the platey 20and is then screwed on the reamer toward .the hub 1.0%. 'The icone new centers the laperture 2@c :sort-hat `its 4fcenter is coaxiaL with the reamer. lVhen the plate Y2O is rthus accurately icentered with fthe reainer, the screws 21 Aare'tightened.to 'hold the plate firmly in kposi-tion 'on member 15. will be seen that the plate 26 more longitudinally on member 15 Vand 'can :allso beswiing laterally :about the screws 2.1 nearest the end of `the plate, tlieajierturel20" .permitting this lateral swinging moy-ement. VJ hen the plate is thuslcentered the irerainer is withdrawn from vthe fboreiof v'liiiib 16a :and the `reamer is then adjusted ite the .proper size for reaming out-said bore. Tfhezreanier is then inserted Afinto the bore, fassliowii in Fig. V1, lthe threaded end 4engaging yin the cone 2.11. The Ireanier Yis now turned,as usual, and is' drawn or yfed th-rough `the bore iin the hub 10EL bythe threads athereonlengagi'ng tlie threaded kinterior Jof `thecone c The reamer is thus guided in perfect and accurate alineinent with its axisxco-axial 'withzthe vaxis of the bore and of the 'centering cone211 so that there is no ychance =for 4the freamer :to tilt or move inte position :with its laxis inclined to the axis of 'the A perfect cylindrical bore is thu-s made in the hub 16.
When the vtool 'is to .be Areleased from the aio connecting rod the handle 2O and member 19 Y tween the end of the hub-a cftheiconnecting rod and the plate, thusrallowiiig Yplenty of room for the reamer to move through the bushing or hub l()a without engaging said plate or the centering cone 24. This greater distance is obtained by reversing said plate.
