F STOCKTON, MISSOURI AGI'IATOR Application filed. November 16, 1929. Serial No. 407,684.
This invention appertains to new and use- I fill improvements in agitators, mixers or churns, and the same has as its principal object the provision of a mixing attachment which can be readily applied to fruit jars of the screw cap variety.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as 13 described and claimed hereinafter.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side clevational view of the novel attachment and placed on a fruit jar.
Figure Qrepresents a side elevational view of the novel agitator detached from the jar.
Figure 3 represents another side elevational view of the novel agitator applied to a fruit jar.
Figure t represents a top plan view of the agitator associated with a fruit jar.
Figure 5 represents a sectional view taken substantially on line 5 5 of Figure 2 and looking in the direction of the arrow.
Figure 6 represents a fragmentary detail sectional view of the operating means.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the device is to be associated with the re 53 ceptacle commonly known as a fruit jar and this in the drawings is denoted by numeral 5.
The attachment includes a cap 6 which can be screwed onto the usually threaded neck of a fruit jar 5 and secured to the top of the cap 6 is an inverted U-shaped bracket 7 through which the elongated shaft 8 is journalled. A substantially rectangular shaped frame, which serves as a handle is denoted by nu- 4-3 meral 9 and is secured to the top of the cap 6 in an upright position.
This frame is provided with an offset 10 through which the upper portion of the shaft 8 extends. To this offset portion 10 of the 13 frame a crown gear 11 is rotatably secured and this crown gear meshes with a pinion 12 carried by the shaft 8. This gear 12 also serves as a stop to limit the movement of the shaft 8, as the same bears against the bight so portion of the U-shaped bracket 7.
The lower end of the shaft 8 has a block 13 secured thereto of polygonal shape and the various sides of this block have diagonally disposed slots l l therein for the reception of the rectangular shaped blades 15. These blades are approximately the same length as the blocks 13, thus terminating at their upper and lower ends substantially flush with the upper and lower ends of the block 13.
In this manner, a substantial screw action is derived from the rotation of the block 13.
It will thus be seen that the device offers a simple attachment which can be readily applied to fruit jars, and in the event the fruit jar breaks, another may be replaced at the usual cost of a fruit jar, thus dispensing with the necessity of purchasing a re ceptacle especially devised for a particularly constructed agitator.
Nhile the details of this invention have been specifically set forth herein, it is to be understood that changes may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
In an agitator of the character specified, an attaching member, an inverted U-shaped bracket secured to the attaching member and having a horizontally disposed bight portion spaced above the support, an agitator having a shaft extending through said support and the bight portion of said bracket and pro vided with a gear, a frame mounted rigidly on said support in a plane at right angles to the plane of said bracket and having a lateral extension overhanging said gear and the bight portion of said bracket and rotatably receiving the upper portion of said shaft, and a gear rotatably carried by the lateral extension of the frame and having means whereby the frame may be rotated.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
VIRGIL MATTHEW PYLE.
