WILLIAM E. BROOK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO BROOK MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TREATING LEATHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,162, dated April 18, 1876; applicaton tiled April 16, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. BROOK, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Method of Treating Leather for the purpose of manufacturing various articles of merchandise, such as spittoons, valises, hat boxes, and other articles that can be brought into proper shape by means of a mold or form.
The invention consists of split leather, saturated with a thin paste made of flour and water, to which is added a small amount (say about one-tenth part in weight) of glue.
The leather thus treated is in such a pliable or plastic condition that it may be readily shaped by being placed on a mold or former.
