3 indicates `the base of the machine. 4 the super-structure thereof and 5 a bracket carrying the piston cylinder 6, the piston rod 7 to which is suspended jaw 3 having holding members 9 adapted to rest on a group of pipes such as 10 placed upon the lower jaw 11 mounted upon the shank 12 from the top of the cylinder 13 carrying piston 14. The upper jaw 8 is also preferably pivotally connected to thevertical slide bar 15, said jaw 8 having an elongated hold 16 to allow for play.
Referring now to Fig. 2, 17 indicates a valve, the operation of which admits air to the inlet 18 in the upper part of the cylinder 6 thereby causing the piston 19 to descend and bringing the clamp members 9 upon the pipes 10 as aforesaid. The valve 20 shown in Fig. 2 admits air to the inlet 21 of the cylinder 13, and when in the position shown, this air enters theY passage 22 and passes downwardly through the opening 23 in the bottom of the piston to the space 24 beneath the same, thus raising the piston until the inlet 25 is in line with the opening 26 which allows air to enter the upper part of the cylinder 27 by way of the passage 23 through the upper part of the piston, thus driving the piston down again until the lower part is in line with the passage 22. This causes a rapid vibration of the piston 14 against the compression of air in the upper part 29 of the cylinder 6 and 30 is a coiled spring which also further cushions this rapid vibration.
The structure 4 is mounted to swing upon the base 3, being mounted upon the shaft 31 in the bearings 32, 33 of the base. 34 is anothercylinder having an inlet 35 adapted to be supplied with compressed air from the valve 36. This "air lifts the piston 37 upwardly and the piston rod 38 being pivotally connected at 39 to the table 40 elevates the same to the position shown in dotted outline, thus carrying the pipes 10 and cores 11 upwardly to inclined position in line with the perforated shoot 41 pivotally mounted by V42 upon the standard 43. The lower end of this shoot is preferably connected by cable 44 which passes over pulley 45, in hanger 46. The other end of the cable being connected at 47 as shown. Thus when the pipes are placed in position between the jaws 8, 11, the shoot 41 is in line therewith, but when the valve 36 is operated and the piston 37 lifts the platform 40 and pipes 10, the shoot 41 drops by gravity to the position shown in Fig. 2 so that when the cores 11 have been shaken loose from the sand they slide down the shoot, the sand dropping through the shoot and pipes may then be removed byv re versing the valves 17, the valve `36 having previously been shut off to discontinue the vibratory action.
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made in the construction and arrangements of parts, without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim 1. In a device of the class described, pipe clamping jaws and means for operating same, and separate means for tilting and vibrating said jaws.
2. In a device of the class described, pipe clamping jaws, a pneumatically operated pis ton for operating one of said jaws, means for vibrating said jaws, and means independently thereof for tilting said jaws.
3. In a device of the class described, pipe clamping jaws, a pneuinatically operated piston for operating one of said jaws, and means for vibrating said aws, and means independently thereof for tilting said jaws, and in combination therewith a grid support and means for tilting same with said jaws.
4:. In a pipe core removing machine of the class described, a base frame and superstructure pivotally mounted thereon, jaws adapted to hold groups of pipe containing cores, means for clamping said jaws upon said pipe, means for tilting said superstructure and jaws, means for vibrating said jaws independently of said cores, and a grid adapted to tilt wlth said superstructure and jaws to receive said cores as discharged from said pipe.
5. In a device of the class described, pipe clamping jaws, means for operating said jaws for clamping pipe, means for vibrating said jaws, and means independently of said clamping means for tilting said jaws, and in combination therewith a support and means for tilting the same in relation to said c1amping jaws.
