Description

S. D. PURDY. I
BALE-TIE.
No.176,049. Patented A mn, 1876.
'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
STACY D. PURDY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
S ecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176.049, dated April 11, 1876; application filed March 23, 1876.
.To all whomo't may concern Be it known that I, STACY D. PURDY, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new Bale-Tie, of which the following is a'specification This invention relates to bale-ties, and'consists of a wire band having its ends twisted together for locking them after the wire has been put around the bale and while in the press, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, the figure represents the ends of the wire locked together.
A A are the two ends of the wire, which are lapped together, and which are grasped at the middle of the lap and given a few turns, the ends being held, which twists the lapping portion of the wire together into a right and left hand twist, as shown.
The said twist in the wire is made therein,
while the bale is yet in the press, with a device which is attached to the side of the press. The said device is not part of this invention therefore I do not describe it in this applica tion.
The wire for this tie does not require any previous preparation for putting it into the press; therefore this makes a very simple, cheap, and efficient tie for all bales bound with wire. 1
Having described my invention, I claim- The herein-described bale-tie, consisting of the two ends of the wire A A, twisted together and locking them, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
