IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE THIMBLES. I
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,994, dated April 11, 1876; application filed.
February 28, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES INWARD,.Of Riceville, in the county of Mitchell and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove-Pipe Thimble, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a cross-section of my improved stovepipe thimble, taken through the line 00- m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same,
part being broken away to show the constructlon.

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved thimble for connecting a stove-pipe with a chimney, or with a wall or ceiling through which it passes, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use, and will hold the stove-pipe securely and in such a way that it may be conveniently detached when desired.
The invention consists in an improved stove-pipe thimble, formed of the inner part, provided with the collars, and the outer part, made in two halves, the one half being made in one piece with the inner part and the other half being hinged at one edge to the edge of the first half, and secured at its other edge by the handscrew and the lugs, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the part of the thimble that passes through the wall of the chimney or the wall or ceiling of a room, and which has a collar, a, upon its outer and inner ends, to rest against the surfaces of said wall. The outer part, that receives the stove-pipe, is made in two halves. The one half, B, is formed in one piece with the outer end of the part A, and to its side edge is hinged the side edge of the other half, 0. Upon the outer side of the free edges of the halves B O are formed lugs, b c, to receive a hand-screw, D, by which said parts are fastened together, clamping the stove-pipe between them. In the inner surface of the halves or parts B 0, near their outer end, is formed a groove to receive the bead of the stove-pipe, and thus further secure it from being drawn out. The outer ends of the halves B 0 have a bead formed around them, to give a finish to said ends.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved stove-pipe thimble, formed of the inner part A, provided with the collars a, and the outer part, made in two parts, B (J, the one part, B, being made in one piece with the part A, and the other part, 0, being hinged at one edge to the edge of the part B, and secured at its other edge by the hand-screw D and the lugs b c, substantially as herein shown and described.
CHARLES INWARD. Witnesses:
JOHN BUTBE, NATHANIEL B. HAWKINS.
