This invention relates to vaginal douches or irrigators; and aims to provide a device of this character that is of simple, economical and sanitary construction, and that consists of a minimum number of parts that may be readily detached or reassembled, that is resistant to rough usage and not easily broken, that may be easily and thoroughly cleansed, and that possesses further and 19 other advantages that will be better apparent from the following description of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which like numbers of reference denote like parts Wherever they occur,
Figure 1 is a View of the anterior or insertible end of the device;
Figure 2 is an axial sectional View, taken on the line 22 in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 in Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is an elevation of the device.
The irrigator comprises a thin tubular metal shell 1, preferably of drawn orwrought aluminum, creased or grooved interiorly intermediary of its ends to form an exterior annular flange 2, and preferably convexly converging at its anterior end, as at 3, to form 39 a reduced opening thereat. That portion 4 of the shell disposed anteriorly of the flang 2 is depressed at intervals around its periphery to define a series of parallel longitudi lnally extending channels 5, there being, i! the present embodiment, four of them, tha are slotted longitudinally, preferably abou half the length of the channels, the slots 0 openings 6 being disposed in the upper an lower ends, respectively, of alternate char nels. The depression of the slotted portior prevents the membrane of the vagina fro] being entrained by theslots, and, furthe more, provides grooves for conveying tl -fiuid in the vagina into the slotted perfor tions 6.
The cylindrical posterior end 7 of the she 1 fits into a recess 8 in the anteriorly pr sented face 9 of a metal base 10, preferably substantially elliptical contour. The b2 lOis preferably an aluminum casting havi;
@FFEQEE ASSIGNOB, BY MESNE ASSIGN- DELA'WARE, A CORPORATION therewith the efiluent and in- 11 and 12, respectively, that 's posterior side 13, and are passages 1 k and 15, respecn into the inner face 9 of the a recess 8 or the confines of )POSltG ends in screw-threaded .1 the interior of the neck 19 of 16 and the iniiuent passage respectively, said tube funcrt communication between the .nd the passage 15 and, also, houlder 18 of the tip 16 and the recess 8 of the plate or base iinst the respective ends of the l 1, thereby forming closures sheath 23 of rubber or other ,dable material preferably intiaunds the cylindrical portion 7 and is adapted to be clamped mge 2 andthe plate 10 in order lively seal the connection bell and the base and thereby e thereat of the fluids in the asterior face 24: of the pad 1 intimately fit the anterior of the base 10, and the inner 25 of the pad is substantially a configuration to the con- ;he vulva, so as to inti latter and effectively close the entrance to the vagina. A flexible passages that open into the inner faces of tube or hose has one end connected the base within the confines of said shell, a
to a suitable source of irrigating fluid or running water, and the other end connected to the nipple 12. The fluid passes through passage 15 and tube 22 into nozzle-head or spray-tip 16 and is sprayed against the mem brane of the vagina, from whence it is drawn through elongated apertures 6 into the shell 1 and educted through duct 14- into a suitableflexible tube or hose connected to the nipple 11, and from thence conveyed to a suitable point of discharge.
It will be observed that the device com-' prises only five parts and may be readily taken apart by simply unscrewing the tip 16 and the tube 22, after which the shell 1, base 10, and pad 23 may be easily pulled apart. The parts in contact with the irrigating fluid, being of aluminum, are not easily corroded and are easily cleansed. The parts are simple and are adapted to be economically manufactured. Moreover, being of metal and soft rubber, they are not easily broken as often occurs when'irrigators of fragile material, such as hard rubber, are dropped on the hard tile floor of a bathroom or are subjected to other rough usage.
Having thus fully described this invention, I hereby reserve the benefit of all changes in form, arrangement, order, or use of parts, as it is evident that many minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a vaginal irrigator, a tubular shell of drawn metal provided with an annular exterior flange intermediary of its ends and with lateral openings intermediary of said flange and one of said ends, a metal spraytip forming a closure for the last-mentioned end of said shell, a metal base forming a closure for the other end of the shell and having influent and effluent ducts that open into the inner face of the base within the confines of the shell, a vulva-fitting pad of yiel-dable material intimately surrounding said shell intermediary of said flange and said base and a metal tube within the shell having its opposite ends in screw-threaded connection with the spraytip and the infiuent duct of the base, respectively, said tube functioning to compress said pad between said flange and said base as well as effecting communication between said tip and said influent duct.
2. In a vaginal irrigator, a tubular shell having a series of parallel longitudinally extending channels having slots disposed in the bottoms thereof, an annular exterior flange arranged intermediate the ends of said shell, a base forming a closure for one end of the shell and havin exteriorly projecting influent and efiluent nipples provided With perforated spray-tip forming a closure for the other end of said shell, a vulva-fitting pad intimately surrounding said shell intermediary of said flange and said base and a metal tube within the shell having its opposite ends in screw-threaded connection with the spraytip and the influeut ductof the base, respectively, said tube functioning to compress said pad between said flange and said base as well as effecting communication between said tip and said influent tube.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
