f This invention relates to devices for spraymental air discharge or fan spray type; and
i has for its object the provision of a sprayhead of thischaracter having certain novel and advantageous features of construction.

Fig. 4 is an inner end elevation in assembled relation of the spray-head parts shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a similar view thereof with the valve member removed, and Fig. 6 is a fragmentary crosssection of a slightly modified form of the valve ring.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the inner or material discharge nozzle of the spray-head, which nozzle, in the present instance, is integral' with and projects centrally from the forward end of a body part 2 adapted to be attached to a gun or holder, not shown, so that said body and nozzle form a rigid part thereof. The nozzle throat 3 extends back through the body part 2 and is intended to have communication with a source of supply of material to be sprayed. The body 2 is radially enlarged with respect to the nozzle and, in the present instance, forms an annular forwardly facing shoulder vat around the inner end of the nozzle 1 in concentric relation thereto, and is undercut to form an inwardly tapering seat. An annular shoulder 5 is provided on the body-part at the rear of the shoulder 4 for receiving the thrust of the inturned flanged end of a union nut 6.

For this purpose the nozzle 7 is provided around its forward end portion with a rearwardly facing conical seat 13, having an arcuate groove 14 therein and extending partially around the same. The groove is adapted to span the space between the passages 15 and enlargement of the groove 14 so that air may be supplied from the passages 15 through the valve groove 17 to the groove 14. When the valve groove 17 is turned out of communicating register with the passages 15 and'incut 18, the supply of air to the supplemental discharge passages 12 is entirely shut ofi'. The groove 17 is preferably gradually tapered in depth from one end to the other thereof, as shown in "Fig. 6, so that an increasing volume of air may be permitted to enter the groove from the passages 15 by a turning of the valve member.
The valve 16 is held yieldingly seated on the conical surface 13 for turning movements thereon by a nut 19 and interposed spring washer 20. The nut 19 :is threaded on the threaded inner end portion of the nozzle 7.
It is apparent with this form of supplemental air control that the valve means is carried entirely by the main air nozzle 7 for turning movements" therewith, so that a turningof such nozzle to vary the plane of broadening of the spray will not affect the adjustment of the valve 16; and also that the valve 16 may be turned to either open or close the supplemental air discharge passages or to regulate the volume and pressure of air therefrom without affecting the adjustment.

I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the claims.
Having thus desc ibed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patents is:
1. A spray-head having an annular external surface, an arcuate groove therein extending part way around the same and with supplement-a1 air discharge assages leading from said groove, said sur ace also having air supply passages in communication with and a ring valve tion between said supply passages and groove.

A spray head having supplemental 'air discharge passages in communication with a source of air pressure supply, and a rotatable ring valvebetween the source of supply and said passages and having a groove extending .part way about the nozzle to open or close the communication between said source of supply and said passages, or to selectively vary the volume of air supplied to the passages, as the valve isturned.
5. A spray head comprising aninner material-discharge nozzle, an outer air discharge nozzle having opposed supplemental air jet discharge openings, said outer nozzle being adjustable circumferentially to vary the plane of the supplemental air jets, and means for controlling the volume of air supplied to said jet discharge openings, said means b e-. ing mounted on said outer nozzle and normally maintaining its relation thereto when 7 the nozzle is, adjusted, but adjustable independentlythereof to vary the volume of the supplemental jets.
6. A spray head comprising an inner material discharge nozzle, an outer air discharge nozzle having opposed supplemental air jet discharge openings, said outer nozzle being adjustable circumferentially to vary the plane of the supplemental air jets, and a ring valve mounted on said outer nozzle and independently adjustable mental jet discharge, said ring valve normally maintaining its relation to said outer the latter isadjusted.
